Oil Change on Low Mileage '07

I couldn't find any information on my situation and wanted to know what you guys think.

I bought my 2007 TL back in April of 2007 brand new. I've only changed the oil three times since I bought the car. I think the first oil change was on 40% but it had been over a year and the dealer said it would be okay to do it.

So now I'm just under 8,000 miles and the MID is at 70%. I changed the 7.5 months ago. I've always been told to change the oil every 3,000 miles or 3 months. I've always used full synthetic but not sure if I should wait for the MID or apply a time frame due since I don't drive the car that much.

Well, it's always safe for you to change the oil whenever you want. "Do I have to change the oil?" is the question here. At this point, 7.5 months on fully synthetic oil, I'd say, "no". But, if it were to hit 12 months, I'd say, "yes".

One piece of advice I will give you, though: Don't reset the MID when you do these "mid-interval" oil changes.

Cool. That sounds good to me. It's just nice to have guidelines.

But why not reset the MID?

I say change it anyways just to keep the engine clean. I do mines every 3000 miles with full synthetic and bottle of seafoam. I mean some might say it's a waste of money, but im a pretty spirited driver and so I like to have the peace of mind.

Oil change coming up soon in less than 100 miles

Just reset the MID when you do the oil change.

Follow the MID or change the oil once a year, whichever is sooner, per the owner's manual.
