Noticable increase ROAD NOISE after tire rotation

Rotated my tires last week (by the book), noticed slight increase in road noise. Nothing bad or pounding, just a slight addition of a small "whine".

Other criteria:
-Tires properly balanced during rotation
-Proper tire pressure
-Haven't rotated in over 12,000--been a little lazy.
-Don't notice the noise until highway speeds and with stereo system off.

Thinking that the brand of tire (BF Goodrich directionals) combined with possible uneven wear of leaving them on the rear that long is contributing to the increase in noise.

Can't think of anything else.

Maybe I'm just paranoid.

That's probably the case. The TL is not a quiet car when it comes to tire noise, especially on concrete roads.

Yes, the varying wear patterns of the tires will affect handling and road noise.

Tires may be a little cupped due to lack of rotation which could be the cause of the road noise.

any chance it'll even out and go away as I get back on the rotation schedule?

Depending on the pattern, and how severe it might be, the tires may eventually wear in, but don't wait too long for the next rotation.
When rotating, rub your hand over the tread forward and backwards, and visually check the tread for any uneven wear. If any noticed, depending on the pattern, it could mean tires underinflated, overinflated, camber or toe wear. It's a good check for any suspension adjustments that might be needed.

Once they are cupped they will stay like that permanently, the only way to fix this is to buy new tires! You can check for cupping by rubbing your hand over your tires if they are rigid then they are cupped.
