Next gen TL (or what the RL could have been?)
I saw one of these (Mercedes CLS 500) yesterday, my first thought was "2007 TL?". It has a similar line to the TL, but it is definately larger (and about twice the price).

I think (ok, guess might be a better word) that the RL is what they wanted it to be. The TL is supposed to be their sportier offering with the RL their more luxurious car.

Does anyone read this

That is my 4 door dream car right now. I just love that car. I want the AMG version of it though.

I priced one out on the Mercedes web-site, about $70 grand with a decent option package.
I believe that currently exceeds the available wife-acceptance factor. :-)

Dave Merrick has stated that while the current TL has an aggressive look, it isnt' aggressive enough. So what was holding the design back is up to speculation. Mr. Merrick has also said that there is going to be more differences between Honda and Acura designs with the latter offering more aggressive lines.
The TSX is nice looking but could have been more inspired (for lack of a better word) with the TL being a bigger version of the design.
So with the direction Acura is taking design wise we can expect to see more better looking designs but I'd be hard pressed if ANY Acura would have the beautiful lines of the new CLS Class. If I read right, Honda of America has less then 50 designers on staff. With the folks styling Accords and Civics (Honda's bread and butter cars) they may have a hard time "breaking out of the conservative design mode" when styling TL's MDX's, or RDX's (other Acura's are designed outside the US). What is interesting is that Honda still has a relationship with Pininfarina. Maybe the Next TL could be styled by them then modified a bit by Honda.

It still looks like King Kong bent the car over his knee or something.

Plus looks aside, we all have to admit that it is stylish and looks nothing like anything else on the road. High style cars are going to upset some people as the look may not appeal to them ie BMW's 7 and 5.

This is why a big car such as the CL500/600 are sedans dispite two doors.
