I think it depends on how long you plan on keeping it.
Just a few years = BMW
...longer = TLS
Maintenance is a bear on a BMW
And +1 on the interior. Always hated it.

I would go back to BMW. Just 6 months ownership of a manual tl after 6 years of various BMWs (M3, 330ci, 330xi). I miss the torque , engine sound, exhaust tone, rwd, not slipping tires on take offs, superchargers that will elevate hp/tq figures by 120/50 and not just 30/15 for tl, tons of upgrades and many others.

lol at the comparaison!
And lol at the m3 suggestion.
Also Aston Martin has a 4 door now you should consider
jk.
I had the decision back on 08 if I was going for a 3 series or tl. I didn't really like the dynamics of the 328i I drove it felt way over assisted.
I liked the 335i a lot but with the options I wanted it was 12k more than the TL.
Another factor was that I wanted to keep it a long time and I was scared of BMW maintenance. And my dad had a 2 year lease on a 530i and had several issues with the I drive which I'm sure would have cost a massive amount to fix.
I think you'll be very happy with the TL-S. I have mine for almost 3 years and I still look forward to driving it. Just as a comparaison my previous car was a 2001 Acura CL typeS and that feeling went away after 6-8'months.
Happy shopping!

If you plan on keep the car long term (ie, when it's out of warranty), then the TL-S.
If you're going to get rid of it in 2 years, then you can look at BMW. The maintenance cost on german cars when they are out of warranty isn't worth the driving expierence IMO.

325/328=not a chance. TL-S will be much more fun to drive and is of much better value and reliability.
335...maybe. Hate how maybe 1 in 5 E90s have navigation. All the others don't, and IMO, for that money, the car had better come with navigation and a tube of lipstick. Oh and xenons aren't standard on the bimmer.

TL-S for sure, even though the 335i is going to be a much faster / sportier car....there have been so many HPFP issues with those cars and coupled with the awful maintenance costs over the years I would never consider one. M3 is a different story, but I don't know why someone suggested it since it's in a completely different league of cars haha. honestly, I'd even shy away from E46 M3s based on what I've heard about issues and maintenance...even though they are the sexiest out of all of the above!

man as soon as i read the title of the post i had the same response as most of the guys here. tls is way better than a 328i, but if you can consider a 335i then just do it. but i guess that if you wanted a 335i you would have post that in your choices so 328i or tl-s?
i say tl-s all the way man.
good luck

OMG me too. the flat shaped dast is like an 80s caddy/Olds/Buick. I'm not a fan of wood either. I like brushed aluminum in my car and will one day own an aluminum fridge in my kitchen. Its more masculine i guess.

Definitely TL-S over 328, but 335 over both of the former.
Guess I'm one of the few who likes the spartan dash layout on the BMW and I think they look better without Nav. Much nicer gauges at night; way classier than the blue or red of the TL/TL-S, better seats as long as you're not fat, leather that's in a whole different league. It's like the difference between a $1500 Belstaff leather jacket and a $200 one you buy at the mall.

One thing I need to add in favor of BMW, my cousin has a 335i coupe he bought new on 07. His has the sports package and the idrive navi. He also had it chipped for 2 years. He never had a problem with it and he does autocross it occasionally (when he wants to give his integra typeR a break).
His only complaint is the runflat tires and the lack of a rear limited slip.
It's a great car if you can afford it

One thing people don't consider with the 335 with the sport package is the fact you'll be lucky to get 15-20k out of the tires, and they cost $1,000-1,200 a set. Gotta pay to play I guess.

RLTW!!
Also voted for the TL-S. BMW = Big Money Wheels. Takes Big Money to play. Consumer Reports consistently rates BMW low and high dollar to maintain. Many of my co-workers who own them complain of nagging mechanical or electrical issues. No thanks.

I'll weigh in on this one. I own a base TL and an '04 330xi. Both are out of warrenty and the bimmer has 73k miles on it. After studying both cars, the bimmers require A TON more maintenance than the TL's. There are so many things that can go wrong with those cars its pathetic. Most seems reasonable enough for DIYer's but none the less, a pain in the ass.
As for driving, I love the way the bimmer handles and power is great (even with the xi). Never driven a TLS so I can't really compare the two, but honestly, the TL is very close to the same driving experience and I would take it over the bimmer simply because of the maintenance.
Like other posters have said, it really depends on how long you plan on keeping it and whether you're gonna let the warrenty run out. Whatever your choice ENJOY!!!

Check out Bimmerforums opinions on the 328 v Acura TL v Audi A4
Seems they all come to a consensus that the TL what is claims to be. Reliable, drives nice, build quality is generally good. Generally the conceptions are right on but then again they weren't comparing the Type S to the 328.

I dont miss not getting Type-S. I wanted the car with the least mileage and Navi. It was the base I bought but it had extras like painted mudflaps and body side moldings. To me they are both great cars Looks like you've done a lolt of stuff to match power/handling of at least a stock "S"... I wouldn't be crying...lol.

But here are some pics for novelty. I took these pics a week before I had my ATLP quads on, so that's why you don't see the exhaust :P
