newbie ???'s

so i am looking at getting a TL (probably used 04/05) i was wondering a couple things?

1: is there any differences between the years/problems they worked out?

2: what kind of gas mileage are you guys getting in automatics?

3: should i get one w/navi or w/out navi (pros and cons of both please) cause i will probably be getting subs amp? and i was wondering which is the easiest to add subs/amp too.

4: anything else of importance you guys think i should know!!

thanks for any and all help guys

opinions/links to answers of my questions is greatly appreciated!

Basic non-book length answers...

1. Yes....same design....but I would personally lean toward an 05 or 06 as some of the initial problems were worked out by then. Doesnt mean that an 04 wouldnt be ok too....just that you are more likely to not have prob with the 05/06. Most of the probs that did occur would have been fixed on the 04 by now though...probably?

2. Crap...I dont know....dont/never have paid attention to milage - not my thing.

3. With Navi...most everybody that didnt get it has regretted it.

4. Read around is what I would suggest....lot of info here you will find.

There have been 5 or 6 gas mileage threads. A search should bring them all to your fingertips.

LOL - I just reset my MID after doing the A1 service items on Friday and went by my avg mgp while scrolling through the screens..... after the past 47xx miles, it's pegged at around 22 mpg . In the past, I had hovered around the 31 +/- mpg range when driving her much easier.

I've been having a lot of fun driving her hard lately. Maybe I need to ease up a bit. Then again, maybe not....

thanks for the help so far! i would like to get some more opinions so i can better decide what i want to do.. i know you guys have a "TL" so you are partial to it... but what is your opinions overall of the car (is it everything you thought it would be/any annoying problems/dissapointments?)

i tried a search and i couldn't get a thread that posted what people are getting (gas mileage wise) but i will try again.

thanks

1. Most of the bugs have been worked out. There are still some rattling issues that folks are having but postings of that nature have been few. The differences between the 3G MY are minor. Here is a thread on MY 05.

2. Gas mileage for 3G, see this thread. It will vary with the individual's driving style, also take into considerations the type of roads, city or highway driving will have an effect of your gas mileage.

3. Get it with Navi. There are numerous threads dealing with upgrades for the audio system. Check the Audio, Bluetooth, Electronics and Navigation subforum.

4. Check the 3G Garage for additional info. And as MB said, browse through the subforums and gather info.

Don't waste your money on the Navi. Since you're putting in subs/amps anyway, do a sweet Carputer setup with the $2,000 you saved by not getting the Navi. There's a couple threads on here with some really nice Carputer installs.

I don't have navi, and I don't regret it. But then again, I think getting lost is a good excuse for more seat time in the TL!

does the "navi option" do anything different than the non- navigation, other than give directions??

one big thing is that the 06 has the TPMS, which many may find useful.

edit: Tire Pressure Monitoring System

It gives directions like it's supposed to, but also it's like a phonebook and store locater. It's got everything you need to find a place. It gives pretty precise directions and also gives out helpful info like telephone #'s and such.

You can even plug in a telephone number of a store and they'll tell you where it is. The sucker is pretty neat, but mind you an update DVD is about $180. The thing is also like a PDA stores everything a PDA would (personal addresses/telephone #'s, appointment reminder and calendar).

I understand that you're going to put amps in the back (I'm not too well with that), but the DVD area doesn't take up ANY space basically. It's only in the left rear of the car (probably a 5x5 area or less?). I'm sure you can stuff a ton of amps or whatnot back there and still be ok.
