Newbie question, need help please!

Hello to everybody,

I am new to this forum and a future owner of a TL. Doing my researches about few things that I would like to clarify before making a decision on which year to get.
Right now I own ’04 I4 Accord coupe 5speed. The problem is, my wife can't and don't really want to drive manual, so I'm looking for an upgrade at the same time with auto tranny (05-07 TL). So far, after few test drives I'm in love with it. Everything is what I'm looking for. The only questions remains, I noticed that specs of a 05 vs. 06 hp are different, how is that? And also, I heard about rattling in the dash on Navi TL’s, is it a big of an issue or how annoying is it? And what else should I keep my eyes on when looking for used TL; by the way, I will be getting my car through a fiend from Manheim auction in States (I’m from Montreal).
Thank you very much in advance. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

as far as i know the 05 and 06 doesnt not have much differences. The 06 horsepower was changed from 270 to 258 due to changes from the rating of the SAE, it has nothing to do with Acura, the engine and suspension of 05 and 06 are the same. The 06+ has Tire Pressure Monitoring System while the 05 does not. Some 05 TL's transmissions are not good.

my car rattles in many places, but i have learned to live with it.

It would be a good idea to get 06+. Everbody knows the firsts year or two a new body comes out the manufacturer works the kinks out. Thats why I said 06+. When buying a used car you reallly need to watch out. Remember cosmetically the car might look nice but you dont know what that car has been through. Ive taken my mechanic along with me to inspect before I bought a used car. You can also request to have a dealer complete a point by point inspection before purchasing. Which will most likely be at cost to you btw. The TL's are infamous for rattles but like stock2dabone said you learn to live with it. Theres thread on AZ that will help you eliminate some rattles, use the search option. Other than that good luck with the sale and happy modding!!!

Thank you guys for your help, it’s definitely clarifies my mind. Another option that I was and still consider is 06-07 TSX auto. In terms of maintenance costs and reliability between this two cars, is it that much of a difference? If you can answer me at that question, maybe some of you owned TSX before TL or know somebody that own one. I don’t like when my wallet get’s drained by repairs. Since my first car, I always owned Accord, ’91 4 door, ’98 LX coupe, ’99 EX V6 coupe and now ’04 EX-L I4 coupe, never had any repairs or barely, always took care of my cars. Of course TSX is far from the power of TL, but I always had an eye for this car. Thank you once again fellow hondaholiks…

The TSX is also a very reliable car, but it is short on power and the mileage is very close. As far as this rattle thing, I have an 06 with navi and no rattles. I would recoment the TL for a number of reasons over the TSX. The TL is larger and safer in an accident, the larger wheel base and extra weight makes for a smoother and more solid ride and the v6 is more fun to drive with close to the same mileage as the TSX. I would get the TL in 6 speed, but the auto is ok if you really want the wife driving, I didn't so I got the 6 speed and love it.
