new TL feature : Drink Cooler

Sunday I had to drive out to Long Island for a wedding. I had a bottle of water in the rear drink holder and I left my windows open to try a and keep the car a bit cooler while I got ready to leave. Since it was 90+ degrees out, I got in the car to leave and my water was disgustingly warm. At some point during the 3 hour trip, I reached for my bottle and took a drink. The water was nice and cold. Since I had the AC on, and the air tunnel vents for the rear run directly underneith the drink holders, it doubles as a way to cool your drink

It's not really a "new TL feature", it is new to you. The A/C ducts run right under the aluminum trim, so the trim and the cupholder compartment stay cool, and I think the glove compartment gets a little air conditioning also.

Is ther a chance this was intentional. And this gives me an idea for a good mod. Do you think it would be possible to retrofit a cooler into the center console. I may try it if I can be sure I wont destroy everything on my way in.

It was intentional. If it was an unintentional feature, the engineer that thought of it, must be sitting pretty right now.

yeah, definitely a nice little feature... but i came very close to buying a 9-3 aero, which had a cooled glovebox, so im not that impressed. after all, you can't close the cover shut with a drink in the cupholder.

Yeah, my Saab also had a cooled glovebox. A separate duct led from the duct going to a dash vent diverting some cooled air into the box. On a hot day you could keep soda cans and candy bars nice and cool, but frankly I didn't use it that often.

This is what you get when you buy from a car from an engineering company. Very cool and very clever.

I vote for unintentional - they don't mention it in the brochures or manual.
