New to TL, buying one soon need advice and help
So my wife and I are looking to buy either a 08 tl type s 102k grey with grey black leather. This one the place has no history on it and bought it from a auction. Looks great looks really well kept no dings or interior wear. But they have not done timing belt and water pump. Or a 06 tl base with 82k with black leather. Guy just had the tranny do e 4k ago looks great as well very well kept.
I need some pros and cons on each, and why I should go one way or the other. I have been a owner of 3 acuras As I am 32 so I went through the import scene growing up. Owned a 94 gsr, which I built and were pulling 12.2 in the 1/4 mile same time had a 01 gsr which I used around town, then a 96 special edition which I did a crv vetch in it. Those days are behind me and I am buying this car for a little fun but more or less to do a little commuting in and to put a car seat in. I got married 6 months ago and we are going to start having kids real soon.
The wife loves the type s, I do too but I like the 06 base to as it is cheaper and less miles. 08 type s is 15k and the 06 is 12800.
Let me know what you guys think pros cons. What I should look for when driving these, what I should do once I get. Basically all the 411. Like what issues do these years have and what I might be dealing with.
Also what I should do right away when I buy one.
Also looking for what redline ATF people use for the 3x3 as I see I should probably do that.
Just give me all the tips and tricks basically.
Thanks everyone Steve

With all else being equal- I would pony up and get the S for 2200 more. More hp, updated features & better auto tranny (if applicable) . Try and work in the price of the 105k service when negotiating. Inspect the car as you would any used car. Links to the vehicles in question would be helpful. Good luck and welcome to AcuraZine.

Sorry can't help you on the Redline question, I use Honda DW-1. However, there are many threads on which Redline fluid to use. Take a few minutes and review those threads. I use OEM fluids for everything else as well.

Hi fellow norcaller.
As ggesq said it'd be helpful to see the links/listings of the cars you're talking about.
I'd already be inclined to agree with going for the S though.

Drive both and see what which you like more
If it were my money, I would get the Type-S. The changes made from the 04-06 models to the Type-S are worth the extra money

This shouldnt even be a question....go with the Type S. Even without taking into consideration the changes the Type S had over the base, the refreshed 07/08 models had plenty of changes to make it a no brainer decision.
The Type S is a solid car with a strong transmission. I would just do any of the basic things you would do to any used car with that kind of high mileage. Fluids, filters, obviously the timing belt service pretty soon...things like that. Detail it inside and out, fix any little things that are broke or not perfect etc etc.
Fluids are up to the owner, but I personally use Mobile 1 5w20 (recommended weight) and an OEM Acura filter. As for tranny fluid I would just stick with OEM fluid for that.
Get an OEM air filter and dont forget the cabin air filter located behind the glove box. Should be good to go after that. Post pics when you get the car.
Oh and P.S., you said the car is gray. If thats the case the technical name is "Carbon Bronze Pearl" aka CBP. if it has the black and gray interior thats called Taupe. The all black interiors are called Ebony/Silver.

Wife decided huh? lol!!!
Get the Type-S my man. I drove one a month or so back with 171k miles and it drove like it just came off the lot. I didn't wanna spend the extra dough on a low mileage one this year. I'll be refreshing my profile next year with an S.
Get your detailing and fluid changes out the way. Enjoy
