New shift knob Q's

Hey guys, i've been looking for a new shifter. (mine is starting to fade)... I've been doingi some research and I think I want the skunk2 one.. Im a little confused because I keep seeing people using the skunk2 shift with comptech ss.

My question is:

Aren't they both shift knobs? Or are they two seperate peices and both are needed?

I want to order this today, so any insight is helpful.

I tried to search couldn't really find much..

Thanks.

no, the skunk2 is the shiftknob and the comptech SS is just the shifter itself. I believe Heeltoe also sells the comptech SS and H-spec bushings as a kit for a small discount. I recommend getting that as the bushings are nice to replace while you're in there anyway putting in the short throw.

I'm using those exact components and love it. The skunk2 is really nice. I've got it in charcoal with red numbering on the knob head.

i also have the skunk2 billet knob, in gunmetal with red lettering and it's great. gets hot and cold sometimes depending on the weather but looks great. it's a heavier shift knob and is meant to be used with a short shifter but you don't have to. i agree with ILC, get the heeltoe package, the shifting improves greatly with the bushings, skunk2 knob, and the SS (and the slave cylinder check valve delete if you go that route also, not necessary)

Moddiction Anvil 2 is a great knob. Nice clean spun billet with no shift pattern. It blends right in with the aluminum trim. Skunk 2 is ok, but looks a little ricey to me.

I'll second the Skunk2 knob and Comptech short shifter, and I also replaced the housing bushings, the bushings at the trans and did the slave cylinder check valve delete. I gotta say it is one smooth shifting trans especially with the AC Delco synchromesh friction modified trans fluid.

I took the red lettering out of my knob and changed it to blue instead. I think it looks good with the blue led lights in our cars.

Just recently got my 3g tl 6 spd and the shifter knob was worned out and needed replaced so just like you i had to decide what knob to go with. I went with the OEM. Im really happy with it cuz it looks really awsome, made the car look newer and it looks like it belongs there. I didnt want something that looked foreign to the car. It feels awsome. And also it holds the shift boot up close to it cuz it has plastic "teeth" on the bottom which aftermarket ones might not have and therefor the boot would hang down low. I dont regret going oem one bit.

I don't think this looks foreign at all. It does get a little hot/cold, but the weight is awesome. Shifts are a little shorter and smoother. I keep meaning to do the short shifter, but it's so solid as is, that I just don't bother.

Just ordered one off e-bay for $70 shipped. Should be here Friday/Saturday so I'll install this weekend. I put it off long enough!

Dude, the short shifter is awesome. I had a regular knob on mine after doing the short shifter and was really happy. adding the 1lb maven knob from heeltoe which IMO is pretty similar to the SKUNK2 and didn't feel much of a difference. It was nicer, but the much bigger jump came from getting the comptech SS.

Installed SS Saturday. It was actually pretty easy. Throws are nice and short now! As pretty as the Moddiction knob looks, I might try the Skunk one. From an ergonomical standpoint, I don't like the way the Moddiction has a smooth taper from top to bottom and it looks like the Skunk is thicker through the middle.
