What's up everyone. I'm James, and new to this forum.
So my wife has a silver 2006 TL w/ navi, which she adores.
![](http://images49.fotki.com/v1520/photos/4/458126/7122869/IMG_6666-vi.jpg)
I had a 2007 Infiniti G35 coupe 6MT, which was great-looking, well-made and fast as hell.
![](http://images32.fotki.com/v1046/photos/4/458126/4455501/otto01b-vi.jpg)
A great weekend car, but I must be getting old because I found the harsh ride a bit much for my daily commute.
In fact, I found myself driving my wife's TL more and more because it was just so comfortable and well-rounded.
Well, the wife got a bit tired of me hording her ride!![No No](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/nono.gif)
So one day I traded the G in and picked up a TL for myself....

A 2008 TL Type-S in carbon bronze pearl, which is one of the most beautiful colors for a car I've ever seen.
Now we're one big happy TL family.![Cheers](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/cheers.gif)

Hey James! Congrats on the upgrade from the G and welcome. Smart looking TL garage. But now your wife will be jealous of your Type S.

God I love CBP Type S's. I just bought myself a Type S although mine is Kinetic Blue Pearl. I bet the wife is gonna be a bit jealous now (and probably wanting to drive yours now) :-)

Welcome to the family. Thats a cute couple you got there in your garage

Im new to the TL family too. I only just got mine (same as yours!) about a month ago but have been reading AZINE for years now. I have to say the azine members, and their devotion to the model was part of the reason for my purchase. Don't get me wrong... I loved the TL before I found azine but it was fun to read all about their experiances and kinda fantasize about when I can finally get mine.

Thanks everyone
Wow, thanks to all of you for the very warm welcome. I can already tell I'm going to enjoy being a part of this forum. ![Thumbs Up](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
And now to answer a few of your queries....
Alas, fellas, it's a 5AT.![ugh](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/ugh.gif)
But I make no apologies because the paddle shifters w/ downshift rev-matching are loads of fun. They hold the gears quite nicely!![BEETROOT](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/lift.gif)
In all seriousness though, I think I'm getting old. While I loved my G coupe, it was just hell on my aging body day-in and day-out through grueling LA traffic. Those of you familiar with the G35 6MTs know that they have very harsh rides (the TL-S suspension feels like a Lincoln Towncar in comparison, I kid you not).
In looking for a replacement vehicle, I wanted something fast and fun but easy to drive and comfortable. I think the TL-S fits the bill quite nicely.
A few more comparisons between the TL-S and the G.....
1) The Honda engine is far smoother, but the Nissan VQ35HR had a more evenly distributed torque band (notably more low-end grunt). Numbers-wise, the two engines are comparable (286 HP/256 lb-ft torque v.s 293 HP/258 lb-ft torque). But I gotta say, the TL-S feels faster. The G was plagued by it's ridiculous weight (over 3600 lbs for a coupe!).
2) While the Gs are known for their distinctive exhaust note (which the fellas on the BMW forums mockingly describe as a "cow mooing"), I prefer the V8-like gurgle of the TL-S's quad exhaust pipes.
3) The suspension on the TL-S is a little too soft for my taste, but the suspension on the G was too stiff. I'd love something right in the middle.
4) The steering on the G was far more communicative and responsive. This is one of Infiniti's real strengths. It's the closest to BMW I've ever encountered in a Japanese car.
5) Interior fit and finish are vastly superior in the TL-S. The G35s are plagued with some of the most uncomfortable seats ever assembled by mankind.
At the end of the day, I am VERY happy with my trade and I look forward to actively participating in this forum.

Great comparison thanks a lot and dont be ashamed to say its an automatic. My Type S is auto and thats fine with me I didnt want a manual daily driver. When I had my Corvettes those were certainly manual but for everyday im all about automatic.

Welcome to the forum. I bought a NBP '08 TL-S new, but when I saw the CBP on the lot and had to delay my decision because I couldn't decide. Finally went with the NBP but I would have been very happy with the CBP.
Enjoy...

some like it stock
congrats - and thanks for the write up on the G35 vs type S. i considered the G35 (6MT) but went for the type S (6MT) instead. based on what i heard the TL was a better all-around car even if not quite a match on performance and handling, plus i've wanted one since they came out ![Wink](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)

Yeah I wish I could have gotten a 6MT but I don't wanna drive that in city traffic everyday ya know. 5AT is still fun... but you can just feel that manual would be a blast.
I would love to try out a TL-S 6MT one of these days. Any takers...
