New DRL Bulbs for 2005 Canadian 3G TL

Hey guys, I'm hoping you can be of some help - I believe the headlights on the 2004 - 2005 Canadian TLs differed in that they had DRLs unlike the US ones. Any idea on what type / size the bulbs are? I'm looking to maybe go with LED bulbs and I'm wondering if this is even possible on the Canadian TLs.

I may also be completely wrong on the whole thing and have no idea what I'm talking about.

EDIT: Realize title would be more effective if it was New DRL Bulbs for 2005 Canadian 3G TL, wondering if a wonderful mod could change it / chime in

Hey man! I'm in the process of doing the exact same thing as you! The bulb size is 9005. You will also need a special harness in order to prevent the DRL error light from going off in your dash. There are 2 harnesses available. One from vleds.com (or v-leds) and one from ijdmtoy.com (option r3 on their website).

Also, the ijdmtoy harness is quite cheaper, but people have been questioning its reliability. I personally went with that one. Check out eBay for your bulbs, you can also browse on v-leds and such but it is a lot more expensive.

Beware of the "chip type" on the bulbs. 3528 is pretty dim. 5050 looks like the minimum you want and I think 5630 and 2323 are pretty good.

Some people now sell stupid bright LEDs that look really cool. You'll end up paying 75$+ for the pair though so it's up to you.

Pretty much sums it up ^^

LEDs are already hard enough to see in daytime, might as well go for the brighter ones to match the output of halogens.

Don't go for the tower LEDs - they're barely visible in the daytime.

Go for high powered Cree

So expensive though doesn't v-leds and ijdmtoy still sell 68smd towers? I've seen pictures and even though they're not nearly as bright a frosty type LEDs they're still clearly visible in the daylight no? I might be wrong I'm just basing my point on pics I've seen, no personal experience yet.

I just checked and those high power CREE start at 25$ for 1 bulb. They claim 2400 lumens and sometimes more. Brightest towers can hardly reach 800 lumens apparently so there's that. Good luck with your search! I'm also trying to figure out what's best. Trial and error!

Good point, I haven't seen a pic in those conditions. I'm starting to think I'll get some of those CREE as well.

tower leds are weak sauce

i've seen the drl tower LEDs in person and at night they're okay, but in the daytime you can barely see them.

I'm pretty sure the drl point is to see them when it's not so nice out but not completely dark, not when sun is shining at its zenith... You know, like foggy or rainy so people know there's a car there.

not exactly. DRLs are also used so on long stretches of highway in deserted areas, your car will be more visible in daytime. During those blazing hot summers where the air seems wavy, having DRLs may help.

Don't get tower leds. That's led technology from 4 years ago. They are obsolete compared to what's available on the market now in terms of brightness. Not to mention they give off a dotted appearance when looking at them reflect off the chrome reflector.

You see like 50 small colored dots. Clearly looks like a cheap quality led

I love you guys

Probably going to go with the Crees, just need to find a set that will fit I guess. I'm not too worried price wise, as this is kind of a biggie in terms of change over for me. I'm thinking I should change out the turn signals while I'm at it as well.

Now the next question is to clear headlights or not to clear. I like the amber on the abyss blue pearl, but I really really like the cleared look with smoked sidemarkers and tail lights.

I'm assuming that ACURA HONDA LED DRL HARNESS is the harness I'm looking for?

Alternately, 50W CREE High Power 9005 LED Bulbs | High Beam Daytime Running Light

That is the correct harness, from VLEDs.

I highly recommend the iJDMToy harness, though. Much cheaper.

Acura Honda Lexus High Beam LED Daytime Running Lights Decoder Modules

It gets the job done, all you should do is electric tape the connections. A harness is really just wires, it's not a computer chip or anything, which is why I don't consider reliability is an issue. Worse case is you have to replace a rusted relay (use electric tape to prevent moisture getting into the relay) which costs like $3.

As for the bulb, the one you linked will be very bright.
I had a similar design until I upgraded to something even more powerful.

Looks like a JDMToy order is going to be done tomorrow happy that those bulbs will work, I'd rather get everything in one go. If I'm not mistaken I'm looking at the R3 harness, correct? GP you sir, are a scholar and a gentleman. Thank you for putting up with the questions haha.

I believe your talking about the led fog lights that are supposed to be compatible with the 07-08 TL fog lights. That thread is on the front page somewhere

Yeah OK I misread that. I was talking about the ones similar to the high powered CREE LEDs. They go for 100$ for a set with 15% off with the coupon code. I tried ordering but they're backordered. I sent them an email. 2 year warranty sounds sweet.

They look more like the accord sedan/coupe/tsx/many other honda oval design, not the 07/08.
