new buyer looking for opinions on 05
Just curious what you think I should pay for an acura I looked at recently.
2005 TL, 21k miles, auto, nav, integrated phone, dark gray
Listed at 26,6 as a 'today only special', they said it was 'bottom-line pricing' ya right. The offered me 25,6 before i left the lot. I offered nothing yet. 24 is my preferred ceiling.
It was a trade-in, KBB says 25 if excellent, 21 in fair condition, but I would think they got closer to $20k for the trade.
What do you think?

KBB Trade in is how much you can get SELLING for a trade-in, so 25,600 is a pretty good number - IF the car is in very good condition. If it was on an Acura lot, they'd be asking a good bit more.
The miles are very low for an 05, so that's good. Check the body and interior carefully for problems. Make sure ALL the gizmos work right. Check the tread on the tires. If it's truly in Good to Excellent condition $24-$25K would be a very good price.

indiana. I live in an area where the closest acura dealer is 200 miles away, so they are hard to come by locally. I drove it and everything seemed in order but a 15 min test drive isn't that much time. I'll probably try to contact the original owner for their opinion and why they traded in.

That's a good deal. I bought my car August 16th, 2007 for $26800. This at the time which was 3 months ago, that was bottom line pricing. I really wanted the Anthracite but could not find one via dealer auctions. I went through a guy that my parents knew.
Basically, I got an '05 TL Navi in Satin Silver with 26k miles in excellent condition. There was also a clear bra on the whole front end. No rock chips at all. Leather seats had not a wrinkle/stretch mark. There was 1 minor licences plate dimple that had been covered up with touch up paint. All vin #'s in tact on all body panels.
Here are the fees involved:
Auction final sale price: 25400
Dealer commision: 1000
Auction/Inspection Fees: 400
Grand Total: $26800 + tax
Assuming that car checks out to be perfect, $25400 is a great deal. I'm in the seattle area and TL's in the same mileage/condition/year range are going for around 28-29k after dealer negotiations.

binhsterbinh - I think the $2500 factory cash on leftover 2007s pushed pre-07 prices down some.
I paid $27,500+TTL for my 06 Nav with 19K miles last month (not as clean as yours - a few rock chips, etc.). I saw $28-$29K on 2006s at no-haggle places.

That's a deal. Good work! I definitely bought at a time when there weren't many TL's to choose from for the money I wanted to spend. My $26800 and your $27500 is only $800 difference. From the bluebook, the difference between each year is about +-$3000. I remember searching Craigslist and whatnot and only finding maybe 2-3 TL's in the Seattle area being sold by private owners and some of those were rebuilt. At the time, dealer prices for used 2006 TL's in Seattle were above the 30k mark, many without nav. There were quite a few of them from dealers but I did not want to deal with the haggling. Perhaps I should have waited but oh well. I still love my '05. Another car that crossed my mind was the IS250 but they're a little small.

I went back to look at it after hours so I can get up close... and there is a noticeable group of scratches (about 4in. x 5 in) on the front passenger side bumper... no paint differences, but deep enough to feel the scratches. I'm guessing from taking a parking space too wide. I don't know if it can be buffed out or repainted but I'm not big on paying 25k for a car with scratches like that. Haven't mentioned to the dealer yet.

If I was to buy a new front bumper for an anthracite 05 TL, where is a good place? Is it easier to buy not painted and then have it locally painted? links would be helpful

The $2500 marketing support is still being offered on 07 models. If you can find an 07 and get it at invoice minus the incentive your about 5-6k off of what you are paying for an 05 w/ 21k miles.
If you wait longer, I bet there will be similar savings on 08 models if not more to clear out inventory when the 09's start hitting the lots in 08.
Then again- if this is out of the range your comfortable paying then the above mentioned is irrelevant

Nonetheless, tell the dealer you want to take the car to a detailer or body shop for an estimate on fixing the scratches to your liking. If they have an in-house shop, they'll probably offer to fix it for nothing. If they don't offer, take the amount of the estimate off the offer price.

You have your choice of naming your price and providing a list of reasons why you want that price - scratches etc. or you can ask them to fix them all at the price they want.
also see if you can get them to throw in an updated Nav disc. Those things go for like $200

No offense to anyone in the business, but I negotiate commercial contracts for a living and I've met maybe one or two car salespeople who do a C- job compared to the average B2B salesguy - no follow-up, bald-faced lies, won't listen to reason, etc.

update.. I pretty much offered them the 25,6 for it.. and now they are saying they can't go below the price on the car of 26,6. Remember that they already offered me 25,6 for it? This is ridiculous. Maybe i'll buy a kia.. or 2.. haha

Thats a good price for that car. I traded my 05 in and got 25500 for it and had 43k miles. They can have the bumper fixed, it costs little to them to fix it. Also they turned around and sold my trade for 27K, it was mint though. I bought a 06 Navi Anthricite with 12,000 miles for 30800, they fixed all the scratches and repaired the curbed wheels, I think it was about 700 worth of work, only because they painted and not just touched up. I had been looking around and every one else was low balling me on my TL for 20k, or max 22k, so I decided I would go for it.

1. It depends on how much the TTL is in that $27K OTD. If it's 7-8% sales tax and a couple hundred of fees, plus truly excellent condition (new tires, minimal rock chips, all maintenance done w/records, etc.) that's a great deal. If it's in usual 25K condition, and tax closer to 4-5%, it's market price.

They had some of the records, not all. Its was a chick that owned it before me, i could tell b/c her voice is still in the hfl.
The interior is in awesome condition save for 2 blemishes on the trim.
I'm workin on gettin pics, my gf has my camera and she lives 300 miles away.

jdoggg12 - So that translates to about $25000 pre-TTL, and to around $24000 for a non-certified. That's a good deal, with the added benefit of a dealer who can't snub your requests and a little extra warranty.

update. so that deal went nowhere. I printed out a few prices of exact matches that were 1200 less and they only came down 300 - final price of 25,9. He then told me to drive to chicago if I want this car.. and I said I am. haha
So the new one is 05 Nav TL, Anthracite, 19k miles, non certified I would guess since its not at an acura dealer, for internet price of 24,9. Sounds like if its not certified then I should be looking at paying 24, would this include damage shown below?

I have been looking at trading in my 05 non navi TL. After looking at Edmunds and KBB and Nada online, i figured i could get 23k for my 32k mile good conditioned TL. The one dealer i visited gave me a trade value of 18.5k. I don't want the hassle of selling it myself, but for that much difference i may just have to.

I guess I will add my $.02. I just bought my SSM about 1 month ago for $22,900 plus TTL. I live in chicago and bought the car from Wesmont Acura. its a 6spd with navi, 44k on the odometer, loJack, A-spec kit, no acciedents and certified!just had a very small nick on the rear lip which was cover with touch-up paint and that was it! I wish it had the clear bra but i guess ill have to get tht dne myself. i figured I got a decent deal considering when i first saw it, the wanted $25k. I defintely wasnt going to pay that! so i took the deal. While looking I also saw an 04 TL 6spd w/ navi and the were selling it for $22,400. no more negotiating, it had a damaged leather drivers seat, no codes for the radio/navi(and they wanted me to go to acura and get the codes) and it ONLY had the factory warranty. WTF?? the only good thing is that it had 22k on the odometer.
Point is, I think you can get a better deal on that car or an 05 TL w/ navi! dont be afraid to travel too! youll be surprised at the price of TL throughout the nation!....AND my advise to you is PLEASE dont buy that car UNLESS its certified! ACURAS are reliable BUT they are expensive to fix if something goes wrong and/or is not up to ur level of comfortability! Happy shopping!
