Smile New to Acura....

in the next week or so i will be purchasing a 3G TL. 04 6 speed

Ive wanted a 3g tl since i was 16 and after 6 years of dreaming i am finally accomplishing my goal. Ive never owned and JDM car. Only been in the Euro scene. Looking forward to learning much more about the other side of the world lol.

If anyone has any input on things i should know and things to watch out for that would be greatly appreciated.

Im planning on purchasing some Megan Street Series coils and then im ordering a set of CCW LM5Ts 18.9.5 front and 10.5 in the back with around a 22 offset. is anyone else running a similar setup to this?

After suspension and wheels I am kind of at a stand still. Euro cars are easy they come turbo'd so you buy a bigger turbo kit and tune it and boom your faster. Ive done some research on the forum over th epast few days and see that alot of peoples first mod is CAI, which brand or company do you guys recommend? Next i see everyone goes with the J-Pipe, seems alot of people go with the xlr8 for most of the exhaust parts they need? Is there anywhere else i should look?

To me, the most important part of modding cars is too make sure you do it right the first time and do take short cuts to save a penny and the best way to make sure you do this is to ask people who have been around th eblock and experimented with what you are looking to do.

any information you guys could provide would be very greatly appreciated.

Im excited to start this build and get to know some of the other forum members!!

Welcome and congrats!

I have Megan Racing coils and have no complaints whatsoever. I would go for a j-pipe before an intake because it gives you the best bang for your buck. Check out vendors like HeelToe or Excelerate Performance for j-pipes, catbacks, intakes, etc.

If you do get those CCWs, it would be pure sex. Make it happen

Thanks cltothetl32 for a productive response!
How low are you? No complaints at all about them?

Xlr8 jpipe or rv6 jpipe is what I'd choose for a dd.

Welcome. As far as wheels go, I can only imagine a 10.5" wide wheel is way too wide for this car. Remember, it's FWD! It's also hard to compare this car to turbod cars as far as mods go. It's a good start to have the 6mt as far as performance goes, but your TL is never going to be "fast". It's a fwd V6 sedan afterall. Cai and a jpipe are a good start I suppose, but don't expect results like adding a tune on a turbod car or a bigger turbo. They are just cheap bolt ons that will get you a few HP.
Like others have said the car is not jdm. As far as I know it was probably designed in the US for the American market and built here as well. Correct me if I'm wrong.

If you buy a Japanese car in any market other than Japan itself, it's not jdm. Americans put a premium on so called luxury and the manufacturers recognize this. Though back in the day the cars were quite similar between markets and geographic regions, the Japanese market retained the better versions of the chassis types that were exported or built outside of Japan.

This is why there are no Lexus or Acura brands in Japan. It's a marketing ploy on behalf of the manufacturers.

Correct on all counts. The only thing Japanese about the 3G TL is the fact that it's produced by a company that is headquartered in Japan.

Oh, and it's semi-reliable. Something the American and European manufacturers are still working on

You're welcome! I'm fairly low...

I actually bought my coils used with about 20k on them. The previous owner took good care of them so I just cleaned them up a bit and put them on the car. They have 32-way damping adjustment so once the height is where you want, you can adjust the stiffness to your liking. I've adjusted the damping a few times since I installed them and have no complaints whatsoever.

These coils go insanely low. My fender is about 23.5" from the ground, yet I have still at least 2.5" of thread left on the coils. I'll never go lower than I currently am, but it's nice to know that it's possible if I really wanted it.

You have the right mentality, i just wanted to go clean and low, which is exactly what i did haha. For me, power wasnt really a priority at first anyways, im trying to make up for that now, but i dont want to put in money. You can see my setup below, suspension is a must in my opinion, i like to be low, even though its a hassle sometimes but you get use to it. There are more than enough resources for you to almost insure ever modification you do is right and dont be afraid to reach out to either me or the community we are all friendly here(But there have been times that show otherwise...) Make the car yours, dont listen to the haters but always consider opinions and im sure youll make your car perfect Happy modding

Welcome to the forums. Any update? I hope you do get the TL.

1st because it's a great car and if you treat it right it will make you happy.
2nd. There are numerous people that create accounts on Acurazine before they actually buy their Acura, then when they buy something else they never return here and leave their profile with 1-2 posts forever.

I have not made my way to pick up the car yet but I have put the deposit on it. Just gotta find time off work to make the trip to get it /: I'm dying right now, like a little kid on Christmas lol

I know all about the low game sir! My previous car was a 2001 b5 passat and my FTG was 21 and 3/4.. Which is stuuuupppidd low for static on those cars my lip was not even a half inch off the ground and that wasn't even the lowest point lol
