New 3rd Gen Type-S Manual Owner

Just sold my 1st gen after 10 years and 170,000 miles and bought an 07 Type-s Manual.

A few questions I have for you guys:

1: Where is the code for the navigation and stereo systems?

2: Getting the car into 3rd gear can be a little tricky sometimes (wants to grind at times). Anyone else have this issue? (67,000 miles)

3: does anyone have a picture of the output of their headlights? My driver's side looks like it is shinning really high when looking at the ground in front of the car, but the aiming looks about right when pointed at a wall. I'm wondering if I have a shitty HID capsule (they are different colors) or if the car was in an accident and they replaced with non-OEM headlights)

4: Finally, the rear lights pulse 5 times when I hit the brakes. Where should I look for that modular?

i can help u with #1

its usually in the service manual, however if you dont have it you can go to the acura owners website and if you enter the owners info correctly it will give you the codes. or if you dont mind going to dealer, they can retrieve it for u too, provided you prove to them you own the car.

Congrats on the new car.

#2 - The 3rd gear issue is pretty common for our cars. There is a TSB recall (TSB 08-18) for the issue. See if your VIN# falls under the recall range. Another solution is to change out the MTF with GM Friction-Modified Synchromesh fluid. You stated your car has 67k miles which is still within the powertrain warranty by 3k miles so get it checked out now if you want to go the TSB route.

Paperboy & SDSilver,

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll get those both checked out today. Only problem is my car has a salvaged title (was stolen and missing for 25+ days). Do you think that the dealer will still cover the recall?

Congrats on the purchase. As for 1, if you sit in your driver's seat and pull down your glove box, the code maybe on a little sticker to the side of the glove box closest to you.

This has been my experience with a previous 2nd gen TL. They will cover NHTSA Safety recalls but not TSBs (3rd gear issue is TSB) if your car is salvaged or out of warranty. You can still try and see if they will do a one-time goodwill repair but the answer is usually no.

Well im not 100% sure but I can try with #3, I did hear (don't quote me on it as I just heard) that the driver's headlight is pointed a little lower then the passenger one, to aid in not blinding on coming traffic. That is most likely it but it shouldn't be drastic so if yours seems like that you might need to get your headlights re-aimed.

Wish I had a picture for you, if I remember tonight I can take a picture of how mine looks.

#1: I also just bought a 07 Type-S 6MT. The radio and Nav codes are on a little card in the owners manual case.
#2: Mine had 112,000 on it when I bought it last month and had the third gear issue. I was worried but it mostly cleared up when I added MT-10 metal treatment and then completely cleared up when I changed out the trans fluid to the GM Synchromesh Friction-Modified. It's been a month since changing and not a single problem with third gear. VERY HAPPY with the cheap fix!Well worth the $13/qt. I paid for the fluid.

Good luck and enjoy your new purchase!

1. You can always get it from the stealer. All they need is your VIN #.

2. Although there is a TSB on this, I suggest you don't go that route, and go with this: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-problems-fixes-114/gm-synchromesh-transmission-fluid-friction-modified-621176/

Congrats!

THank you for all the quick replies, guys. Went to the dealer and sure enough, salvaged title=no help from the stealer. I'm kina buddies with the (now) service manager and he wasn't ready to do anything for free. He did give me the codes to the radio (was on the glove box side, thanks TLDude) and Navi code. I didn't have an owner's manual...just bought one on Ebay.

Replaced the tranny fluid with the GM stuff. So far, so good. Mine took 3 whole quarts and it never over flowed out of the fill hole located under the battery. I'll have to get another quart and add to it some time in the near distant future.

Speaking of the owner's manual. I want to pair my iphone with the navi and I read you need a code out of the OM. Will this be an issue if I buy an OM from another TL?

Thanks again!

you dont need a code of the Owners manual.
when you pair, the phone will ask you to make up a code or will give you a 4 digit number.
simply use that number when pairing to your car.

A lot of times the 4 digits is 0000. Congrats and welcome to AZ Register her at www.myacura.com, save the radio and Navi codes there for safe keeping.

Please tell me you knew the car had a salvaged title before you bought it. If you bought it from a dealer that would be illegal I would think for that information to not be disclosed. Now if you bought it with full knowledge then thats fine I was just making sure.
Glad to hear that the fluid helped so far. I kind of want a 6spd TL-S and this would obviously be something I do right away.

At first I was a little confused but it's easy.

JTS,

Yes, I knew it had a salvaged title. I also think that it would be illegal to sell w/o buyer's formal consent. The car was stolen and I picked it up for $15,500 with 67,000 miles. Pretty good deal I think since the warranty is almost up anyway.

Oh sweet so maybe the car didnt actually have any damage. If thats the case it its actually really clean then you might have got yourself a real steal. its unfortunate the title has to go to salvage for that but if you think your going to hold onto it for a long time who cares!

Thanks for your helps, guys. Got it all straight now. The blinker was a stupid modual in the rear high mount tail light. Some wire cutters and sodar fixed that. GM fluid fixed the popping out of 3rd. Got both codes from the dealer for free. Hands free is now paired with phone.

There was def some damage. Don't know how much but I can see there has been some work done (cosmetic) under the hood and the rear bumper doesn't match that great. Most people can't tell but it stands out to me now like a sore thumb. I'll wait 'till some AHole runs into me again...then I'll make sure MY body shop gets it done right. Other than that, the car's great!
The cheapest I'd found was on Ebay for an 07 and up 6speed Type-S (lower miles) for $19,500 + dealer fees + shipping. I figure I saved myself about $5,500 all said and done.

Whoa trigger, you've overfilled your transmission!! It only takes 2.3 U.S quarts for a drain and fill. That's 2 quarts 10 ounces (rounded). Never use the fill hole as an overflow check hole. The sight (check) plug is on the side of the case and that is what it's for if you decide to use it. Just make sure if you do that you only re-install that plug with 8.7 ft/lbs of torque.

You need to drain out some of the fluid and definitely do not add any more.

Thanks for the info! I drove it home from my shop and did some more reading. I missread the thread. So, I drove it back the next day, jacked it up and found to correct check plug, unscrewed it, lowered the car down and drained out about .5 L's. I think I'm good to go now. The car shifts great now.
