Need your opinion on this TL

Hey guys, I saw a place selling an 07 TL-S with 105,000 km which is around 60k miles. Price is $25,000 Canadian or $20,500 USD.

Now I know it's a lot of mileage but was wondering if it was worth it at that price. If not, then what would pay for it? Is there anything that I'd have to keep in mind with TLs at that mileage (ex. timing belt)? Acura engines are known to last a while so I guess I'm not too worried about it. But at the same time, it might suck to pay this much for a car with that much mileage.

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated and merry xmas!!

Well right off the bat, the Kelly Blue Book puts it at about $22,000 USD as the suggested price from a dealer. Not sure how great KBB is, but you can use that as an indicator.

I would investigate the previous owner of the car. How did it get 60K miles on it in 2 years? That seems like alot. I'm assuming it was mostly highway driving, which is a good thing from what I understand.

Yeah, I've yet to check out the car and ask questions. That many miles is still alot for just 2 yrs of driving. But I can't picture anyone doing that much just in the city alone.

Well I just read a post where an '05 RL hit 205K. He was doin just over 5,500 a month and it was still going strong. A trust testiment to Acura\Honda engineering. I think you'll be ok. Are you buying it from an Acura dealer? Is the original Acura warrenty transferrable? If so, I'd say you're probably ok...

that is well over the us national average... no idea on what it is in canada

my main concern would be the records of service done to the vehicle... if they are available... then that would be a great purchase... although you should try for 20k with taxes/fees....

fyi. vehicle is out of warranty so you may want to look into some sort of extended warranty.. is the vehicle certified? certified acura's usually get a 12 month/12,000 mile limited warranty

Nah, the car's not from an Acura dealership. That's what got me saying 'Hmm...'. As for extended warranty, I'll just have to ask. I don't have any specifics aside from that. I'll ask for the VIN and get the history. I just didn't know whether this car degrades quickly over time. It's a type-s so i thought that it would be more touchy with suspension, brakes and so on. I don't recall seeing any posts of ppl here who have a type-s and got this far.

We have 30K (klicks) on out 07 TL-S... and I know that is a bit on the low side, but 100K is a lot... highway or not. I guess the big question is how much do you drive... if you put on 30K per year you will have it miled out in 3 years... if you are OK with that that then you are getting a superbly optioned vehicle for less than half of new price.

The 07 TLS has been great for us… performs very well and gets great gas mileage… and I like the look. The 09’s look like a tank in comparison… I would not touch one with a ten foot pole. The electronics are great with Acura… especially the navi, even though it is DVD based which makes it a but slower to load.

The gen 4 drive trains are solid… so if you don’t put a lot of miles on I would say go for it. The price is right.

milage does not kill these cars so I would not be too worried.

you said it was an 07? the car could be 2+ years old considering that they went on sale in 06.......run the VIN past your local acura dealer to see if it has been flagged and then again past your insurance company to see if it has been in an accident

Way too much mileage for an 07. Yes the car may run strong now but no one can tell what will happen a few months/years down the road. If you're buying an 07, get one that still is well within warranty range.

Also keep in mind, resale value on a car thats 40K+ over the limit is going to be shit!

Keep lookin! Eastern Canada seems to have better deals than here out West. My experience anyways.

Have any of you had a lot of warranty work done on your TLS? It's the fact that these cars have been relatively problem free which is why I'm even remotely considering this. I'll probably be putting around 20k per year so I'm not gonna kill what's left of the mileage. But I just wish I had somehting I could use as a checklist for this car. Aside from the obvious, I just don't know what kind of problems I might come across. Use that to negotiate the price a little further if possible.

One reason why used cars cost less in the east is that the road salt kills them in 5 years. They also tend to put on a lot of miles with long commutes. It is a trade off I guess... for less money you get less. If you want a low mileage car from Victoria you will pay.
