Need some opinions on my paint matching. Body shop pictures inside....Need HELP!!
Well, long story I got my car back after two weeks and got rushed out of the shop last night as the car was just finished after 2.5 weeks. Anyway, I made sure I told the owner, I need the car right and I really need the wdp blended so you can't tell it was painted. I got the car home from the rainy dark night and got it in the garage. In the florescent light, it was way noticable to me but I know the lighting can alter shades of paint.
I got the car outside today and I can see it but I really need everyone here to chime in to tell me if its that bad or am I just asking too much. The right rear panel was painted and blended without any shading. The drivers side seems to be another story. Please let me know what you guys think.
I will have more pictures up later when I get home.

I literally see no difference. Maybe the rear bumper looks more yellow than the rear quarter panel but I don't think that's bad at all. I think you're going to be the only one able to tell the very slight difference. Could be much worse!

The driver's side, what was painted? It looks like the 1/4 panel is a different shade, but hard to tell from pictures. When the WDP is painted, it's best for the shop to take test patterns to determine the correct 3 stage application to match the factory paint. If it isn't done properly you'll be able to detect the newly painted area. When I had the front bumper/fender repainted on our WDP, two local shops wouldn't guarantee a match, but the third, where I have had excellent work done before on other vehicles, as usual, made the guarantee, and when it was done, you can't tell the difference in direct sunlight, or in shade.

Looks good to me. WDP is a bitch to match exactly, especially on the bumper and panels. Mine has the kind of the same look, depends on the light. I think it's sharp looking and yours looks awesome as far as I am concerned.

Area on my XM
You WDP folks got me praying that my car will never be in an accident requiring any sort of bodywork. And if it is in my cards, then it better be the other guy's negligence so I can at least coax his insurance company to cover the cost of repainting the whole car.
However, I can't really tell in the pictures you have posted. Looks good to me.

^^ thats some shitty work man and I wouldnt have it... Especially after 2.5 weeks. I took my front end pieces to the body shop with just the paint code and they matched it like the whole car was painted. I'm pissed for you and I would tell them to fix it even if the whole damn car has to be painted...

Jon I honestly can't tell
I'm sure it's hard to capture exactly what you see in pictures though.

Well, I see two different color doors. Here are some close pictures of the doors. The blending from one to the other isn't right. The rear door looks a lot whiter than the drivers front....
I'm aware of the plastic being a little off and I understand that because of the plastic. I'm really talking about the color difference of the two doors like you guys circled.
Here are a couple more.
Now what do you guys think?
Also, I drove a crazy 700 miles today and almost had two people hit me. The flying rock off the truck wasn't avoidable.
Why the hell didn't anything like this happen when I had the rental? No one coming close to hitting me and rock and pebble free.

Not all LCD monitors display images as nicely as others. I'm using a dell ultrasharp and I can assure you that I definitely do see the difference in colors. Take it back I say.

you talking about the lower, bottom fender + the rear door? i see a TINY bit of a difference; it almost looks lighter. can't tell if the pear's there though probably just the picture. Wonder if it'll fade over time? You may be stuck with a similar response from the shop...
honestly, not very noticeable though...

With the new pictures, I see the mismatched doors now.
And damn a rock hit your windshield? 2010 is pretty rough on your car so far! Hopefully this is it for the rest of the year!

I see it.
As we all already know, the WDP is a 3 stage paint. Ive discussed with several body shops, and it is actually one of the hardest colors to match..... The White Pearl from Cadillac's is also a really, really hard color.
You generally need a larger blend area between the new paint and the old... most places wont take the extra effort to on each coat, to ensure the right mix of Base White, Pearl and Clearcoat are layered.....

oooo...i dont know...it's very slight...didnt notice it really until i tried hard to find something wrong. could be worse in person...but it looks like just camera lighting on the screen.
btw...did you remove your frosted lens covers on your tail lights? If so, do you have more pictures of them lit up?

I can see the difference and if it were my car it would probably bug the hell out of me until it was corrected. My advice is to send it back and make sure you take it on a sunny day and point out the difference.

Thanks guys for the responses. I've seen worse and I guess I can tell more than most people that it is different. Today is cloudy and it isn't bad at all. When the sun comes out, its a different story. The car just did 1000 miles in two days...I am working with the bodyshop and he seems to be working with me at this time. The car is clean and in my garage till the next ice storm passes.. When it gets sunny out again, I will take the car out and see if its really as bad as my mind says it is....If so, I will take it in and see what can be done.
WDP is the best paint to have on a car until you need to get part of the car painted. I will think twice about a pearl white next time i'm ready to buy another car.

Wow you guys that say you cant see a difference or barely at all must be BLIND!!! Those doors looks like total different shades of white. Yes I see a BIG difference and if that were my car I would no longer be happy with it until that was fixed. Unfortunately to repaint both the rear quarter and door are a LOT of work. Hope you get that straightened out.

I would take that back. That is not a good match at all. The shades are completely different. Get them to repaint it.

I don't think there's a way to completely match white paint, esp. with yellowing clearcoat over it on the rest of the car. Best bet would be to pay a little extra and have the whole car clearcoated.
Even if you took it back, what I think the shop would do is to lightly sand the front door and then polish to see if it gets better. There's no way they'll repaint that whole area.

^^ Thats what my body shop said....Where do we stop? We need to blend it in to the rest of the car and if he kept going, the whole side of the car would have been painted. I spoke with him on the phone and sent him some photos...He sees the problem but states he "blended the rear door" not painted the entire door. I am at a stand still now as the weather is crap and the weekend is here. I am going to see him on Monday afternoon and see what can be done. He said we can work it out so, we will see.
The WDP shading is just soo screwed up guys on the eyes in general. From different angles and different lighting, the paint looks well...different! This blending issue is really noticable to me in the sun. I will hand it to them that they fixed my small dent on the upper quarter perfect and lined up my bumper perfect....I'm just a little bit of a bitch when it comes to having my car just right....Maybe, I'm asking too much?

Since he said he blended the door, then the reason why its whiter is because of the fresh clear coat. I think it just needs some buffing and it will even out then. But as far as difference, its very noticeable.

OKAY! I washed the TL and was drying off and said, oh I missed a spot. I went to wipe it and it was one of two runs in the paint!! WTF!!! I didn't bring it to Macco for christ sakes but I sure got the paint results. I was going to wait to go to the auto body shop in the afternoon tomorrow but I've seen enough. I need to take it to them first thing in the morning and get this shit straight! Take a look at this fine job.
This is on the passenger quarter panel just above the light assembly...
I'm not going to talk down about the shops work as I need to work with him on fixing these things... Now that I've been able to clean the car and look it over, the evidence of a rush job (even though the car was in the shop for 2.5 weeks) is obvious.

Wow what a shitty job! It looked better than that in the other pictures but now it looks terrible!
And I'm currently in a similar situation; I parked my car outside today and I noticed my front bumper is cracking and paint is peeling off. It looks like somebody gave me a pretty good bump and took off.

Whoa, Jon what is going on?? That's some terrible work! How the hell can you give the customer his car back in this condition?? I really hope they get it together and get the job done right. Honestly, the insurance should have just paid you for the car and took it. At least you wouldn't have had to deal with the headaches of a shitty paint job.
Tyler, same exact thing happened to me, wtf!!! I noticed it several weeks ago. Now I have to find a decent shop to get my bumper painted.

Jon,
It doesn't take a trained eye to see where the paint match is not correct. And it most deffinatley does not take a pro to look at those paint runs and know that that is bullshit, shotty work on the body shops part. I am anxious to hear what the shop owner has to say when you pay him a visit tomorrow. I know I told you that it is amazing how calm you are right now as I know you are rip shit inside over this. But, you are correct there is no reason to walk up in there and puff your chest out, if he is as good as he thinks he is, this will all get taken care of in a very expeditious manner. Let me know if I can assist in any way.
