Need some advice. (04 G35x or 06 TL?)
I'm looking to buy my first car and need some help picking the better car/deal.
Right now I'm looking at an 06 TL with 74K miles for $14000 or an 04 G35x with 76K for $12000. (there's also an 05 white TL that i'm looking at for around 13000 but it has 102k on it)
It's pretty late, i'll look up the carfax tomorrow and post links to the listings if i'm allowed to do that.

I owned an 03 g35 sedan before and the TL blows it out the water in terms of exterior and interior styling. Mods for the TL are cheaper too.
The front seats of the TL holds you down more than the g35, but I have to give the back seats comfort to the g35. You can slightly recline the back seat to give your passengers more headroom. The sound system on the TL sounds better than the Bose in the G. The blue instrumental lighting looks better than the orange in the G. I can go on and on what I liked more about the TL and vice versa...
Looks like you get snow where you live so based on that I would choose the g35x. But you can drive the TL in the snow too with snow tires. It's a tough choice but I would pick the TL over the g35.

Get the red TL if you can. Have them Carfax every one of those cars because the miles are high, at least for the two TL's for their ages. Also for that reason, go over each car with a fine tooth comb.

We are sorry to have to post this, but due to recent announcements by Carfax, Acurazine is no longer allowing Carfax offers and/or requests.
Carfax is cracking down on the "sharing" of carfax memberships. Some of our members here on AZ have been contacted by Carfax for violation of Carfax rules.
Because of this, it has been decided to no longer allow Carfax offers and/or requests.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation,
The Acurazine Moderation Staff

The place thats selling them may have carfaxes on them. Also, dont let the 3 or 4 records thing scare you. My 04 had 18 carfax records last time I check. None were accidents as I know where the car has been since new. They were service records that were reported.

I just got carfax and both are Lease cars with no real information.
The thing that really has me leaning towards the TL is gas mileage, premium at 17 miles a gallon would burn holes in my pockets

i have owned an 03 G35 sedan for the past 4yrs and I'm looking at getting an 06/07 TL within the next month. The interior alone would the reason for me to go with the TL over the G. The interior of my G has bugged me since day one.

The cars are very similar. I would say the G is the TL's closest competitor, and most people who consider buying one also consider the other.
If you are concerned with fuel economy, definitely get the TL. I get around 33-34 mpg on the highway, and if I go the speed limit then it's 36 mpg. The G doesn't get anywhere close to that.

As Borat would say:
Borat: I want to have a car that attract a woman with shave down below.
Car Dealership owner: Well that would be a TL.
Borat: Do this have a pussy magnet?
Car Dealership owner: No. The vehicle itself would be a magnet.
Borat: In my country, they would go crazy for this one.
[points to RRP TL]
Borat: This one... not so much... [points at G35X]
Borat: High-five!

The 04-07 G35 had a dowdy exterior and marginal interior. The TL gives up just a little in terms of driving dynamics but to me it's not that discernible in daily driving. Get the TL.

I like the exterior on both the G and the 3G TL, but found the 2005 G35's clutch to be overly heavy on the 6M. Some writers complained about shifter notchiness on the G35, but the shifter seemed OK to me. The auto trans G didn't seem particularly memorable. There is more intake/exhaust noise while driving the G35, by design. FWIW, I think the 2004 G sedan was a touch slower in acceleration than the TL.
The interior of the TL is much nicer overall-- contrast the steering wheel control switches on the G and the TL when you get a chance.

I haven't gone thru all the replies but i would pick the 3G TL. I would just say wait for a better deal. I'm sure something better will come around.

I have a 04 TL and my dad has a 05 G35X.
I love the power and the handling of the G, but the spaciousness and the amenities of the TL are top notch compared to the G.

Good choice on the TL! I woulda chose the TL either way... But especially since u were comparing the old body style G sedan! The newer one's are better, but I'd still go TL! And the TL's one hell of a first car man! Good luck!

I know this is a "what should I choose thread" but make sure you get that puppy inspected by Acura or a good independent mechanic. Run the oil & ATF through the eyes & nose..Make sure you get a full vehicle history as well. If that TL was picked up by the dealer at an auction I would beware.. That is a good price but don't let it be the factor in determing your purchase.

ouch, that can't be good?
Anyone know where in NYC (queens) i could take it to get it checked?

I checked the carfax and it doesn't have a salvage title. It's a lease car so i'm guessing it was auctioned off after the owner got bored of it.
The 4 records don't give me anything though. it's just
1. registration
2. registration renewed
3. sold at an auction
4. offered for sale
around how much would it cost to get it inspected at meineke or pepboys?

Call around and get quotes for an inspection. Get the dealer to agree to it and then pay to have it checked out. $100 now may save you thousands down the road. Take a small refrigerator magnet / flat magnet and place it around the body panels to check for bondo. Take a real close look at the paint and look for any paint runs to indicate that it was repainted. Check the inside body wells including under the hood and the trunk (pop hood panel & pull carpet back) and check for visible damage or new parts. GL and hopefully everything goes smoothly. Be prepared to walk away if anything looks fishy..

Have you purchased yet? I like both cars. I've driven both vehicle for more than 24 hrs. I'd have the say the G is much better in performance but its not a big difference for daily driving. If you dont care too much about performance, I'd take the TL cuz it is roomier, better gas mileage, quieter, better sound system, better interrior. Exterior, the TL would look better with the A-spec kit.

Glad you got the TL ..
Figure this too (if it wasn't already mentioned)
1) extra service costs for the center diff/AWD coming up soon
2) timing belt change on a G vs. TL is about the same -- don't get it done at the stealership (at 100k)
3) TL much more technologically advanced interior wise -- compared the the '04 G
4) Totally agree -- '06 TL has a kick ass interior compared to the G
5) Performance differences are negligible comparing the two model years you're comparing
6) 5AT vs. 5AT -- the TL's is a bit more suspect, but I had no issues with mine up to 100k miles...
7) that TL color is unique .. at least in chicagoland.. i like it better than teh G's exterior color -- very common beige
8) INSPECT INSPECT INSPECT that car with an authorized mechanic.. the G may end up being mechanically more sound or v.v.
Best of luck
