Need opinions on this beautiful '04
Thinking about purchasing this car and looking for input. Clean looking 2004 TL AT 5 speed with 153k. Full CarFax with 28 maintenances, Timing belt and water pump done 10k miles ago, and what looks to be a CompTech supercharger, they are asking $8900. I know these miles are high but this is looking to be an excellently maintained vehicle. I have never owned an Acura before and if purchased will be my nicest car ever. Any input is appreciated, thanks for the look.

Personally, for me and only IMO I'd stay away.
Why? Well, it's got an SC to start with. You don't install that and not beat it. Will the TL take it? Maybe, maybe not. Did they do quality work? Maybe you'll get lucky. Will the dealership provide a compression test?
Unless I knew who did the work on this car, had a TON of service history with receipts and so on, I'd steer clear.
Again, all of this just IMO.

This.
I have no doubt in my mind that the J32 could take the abuse. None at all, actually.
Can't say the same about the A/T however. If this was a 6 spd, I'd be all over it.
It's true that superchargers ain't cheap, especially a nice comptech one.
I say buy the car, convert it to a 6spd, and sell the 5 A/T on craigslist if you want a ridiculously fun DD for not much cash.
Torque steer? What's that lol! Expect plenty!

Check Consumer Reports or other sites. I was thinking of a 04 with a few more miles than that I discovered something that I had forgotten about. The 04's were notorious for bad transmissions. Even the dealership that was selling the one I was looking at mentioned that today. Seems they have a tendency to become problematic around 30 - 40 K, and they ain't cheap, north side of 3000 bucks.

I'd stay away. That transmission has probably taken a beating.

Todd, I see the TL is here in the Kansas City area (Independence, MO). I'd have a mechanic check it out. With that many miles, my question is-what will the supercharger do to the transmission, going forward.
Plus, not Navigation too-it's something to consider.

So it didn't get a timing belt and water pump until 143k? On a supercharged car, no less. If that's the case, I don't consider that excellently maintained. He was playing with if that was in fact the first belt change.

I wouldn't buy it at all do to the fact that it has SC.

Also consider this: The dash doesn't appear in any photos. Almost every '04 TL I've seen listed that omits any image of the dash has a split/cracked one. Have you seen the car in person? I don't like the repo bait dealer, either.

Mhmm seems too good to be true at that price. Id say if that car was running at 100% and had no flaws the price should be adjusted to about 12-13k based on the mileage. Unlike how others say that car may have gotten beaten on I like to differ. I plan on buying a SC after I pass a 100k (when all my warranties expire). I do drive sensibly the majority of times but there are times I get on the Van Wyck here in NYC and have a quick high speed run late at night.

fuck speeding on the streets of NYC too much attn to avoid the potholes that litter the streets. This is why I love going to my Upstate home...... talk about open roads..
There are plenty of TL's out there this one seems too risky and as your first car purchase i'd hate to see you regret it later on. Be patient..... its good you came here first. Like others have stated it may or may not be a good find so bring a skilled mechanic to the test drive and get it on a lift

Just wanted to thank everyone for their input. I have not even had a chance to go look at this car, as it is about 30 minutes away and I've been pretty busy, plus I wanted to bring my mechanic uncle with me. My opinion was pretty close to most given here, if it was the 6 speed I would have probably been there day one, but the automatic among other things gives me pause.
Will still be checking this car out but the fact that it isn't gone already is yet another red flag waving in my face, and I will probably hold off and look for a clean 6 speed. Is it only the 06s that have the Brembos etc?

Don't even bother wasting your half an hour of time. Just let it pass and keep looking. You will find something good. Like the other guy said, just be patient.

Also, those 6MT's have the LSD in the trans. Another big selling point for those cars IMO.
