Need Clarification on Factory Exterior Paint Options

Maybe it's the pictures, maybe its the camera, maybe its me...
either way, im trying to clarify something about the 3G TL.

How many grey tone colors are there? I know there is a silver, which is a bright grey look, then there is a dark grey, thats almost like a carbon black/grey smoke color. I just saw a picture and I swear this TL is in between the 2 colors, which made me think there are shades I don't know of....

I know what colors I'm willing to consider: WDP-The darker grey color and Black. I'm new to the site so WDP is the shorthand I've learned... lol

There are:

ASM (Alabaster Silver Metallic I think) on 2007-2008 models, its light silver
SSM (Satin Silver Metallic) came on 2004-2006 models, its also a light silver very similiar to ASM
AM (Anthracite Metallic) came on 2004-2006 models and that is the gunmetal/darker gray that you were talking about
CGP (Carbon Gray Pearl) came on 2007-2007 models and that is also a gunmental/dark blue/gray color

WDP (White Diamond Pearl) which is available on all 2004-2008 models
NBP (Nighthawk Black Peark) also available on all 2004-2008 models
CBP (Carbon Bronze Pearl) which is only available on Type-S 2007-2008 model. Its also a gunmetal/dark silver color

Then there are a couple reds and blues etc. but those are all the grays blacks and whites lol.

CBP is also available on base model 07-08 models, not a Type-S exclusive. I believe some 06 Canada spec models came in CBP as well. The only Type-S exclusive paint is Kinetic Blue Pearl.

One more color that hasn't been mentioned yet is Polished Metal Metallic.

Thanks Guys for you help, I'm more confused now about the shade of grey, because I guess there is a difference in colors that are 2006 available... and then what colors are available in the 2007-08.

I think it's that Anthracite Metallic that was mentioned that is the shade of gray that I like, but since I want a 2007 I'm going to have to go with a different variation of that color. The sacrifices that I must accept in my life... lol

04-06 anthracite metallic
07-carbon gray pearl
08-polished metal metallic

these are the variations of "dark gray" for the 3G TL.

04-06- satin silver metallic
07-08- alabaster silver metallic

these are the variations of silver.

Also without physically being at the car (online shopping ) is there something that can be verified to confirm the color like in a picture or a placement on the car? All these websites say grey, and I dont want to see it in a picture then go to the dealer and then its another shade.

^nope.
just the fact that the different years had a specific color like stated.
so if you check out an 07, you'll know that the dark grey is CGP and not AM

Gotta say this all confused me at first too. I can hardly tell the difference between PMM and CBP to begin with (and neither can the dealers that list a car as "grey") so I had trouble figuring out what my own car was before I looked up the color code. So you may want to call the dealer and have them find the color code inside the drive door and check it out

You can also call and ask the car dealers to check the door jamb for the car's color code. Might be a hassle for them but if they really want your business, they will go out and check for you.

Yea, I mean since I know the grey is different from 6-7 then I know what it will be, because I'm 99% not getting a 06 for no reasons... It would take a miracle for me to consider that now knowing about the upgrades from the years and also the tranny problem that was more or less cured in 07...

I don't recall anyone has problem with the 07-08 AT except for Paperboy and in his case he stated that Redline ATF is the main cause for failure.

Yea it seems the problem was pre 07 which is why I want that year... I have looked at so many threads and I know everyone said to use an upgraded fluid and change the pressure switches... I just need to look it over again, once I find one...

there were TWO shades of gray for 07-08. they were listed above in aprevious post in your thread. it's really ONE shade of gray for 07 and a slight variation of gray for 08.

CBP is more of a bronze hence the bronze in the name (think brown).
ASM is a shade of silver hence the silver in the name.
CGP is a shade of gray hence the gray in the name. i believe this was only available in 2007. the other gray, only available in 2008 is polished metal metallic.

^^the latter two are the ONLY grays available. one for each year. ASM and CBP were available for 07 AND 08.

OK.... I dont want the bronze colored one, and I dont want the bright silver color... So I guess I need to be looking for CGP, aside from WDP or NBP.... I'm still learning... But thanks everyone!
