Navigation voice feedback silent on 04 TL
After initially thinking one of the many setup options was not properly configured, I finally realized the Navy voice was just not responding. The sound system mutes for the Nav voice but nothing comes over it.
The Nav system instruction booklet problem/solution FAQ does include a reference to a non-responsive voice, but the solutions did not help. The setup 1 screen volume is not off and the volume slider bar is set to the right of center. The setup 3 screen "Voice Feedback" toggle button is set to "on". The radio works so there is no anti-theft activation needed.
The auto dealer did confirm that it was not a simple setup issue and was not a ID10T problem of mine. A serviceman also looked at it, but being it was the first time he even saw the new Nav, could provide no quick solution either. Tuesday I will drop it off and the dealer plans on working with Acura technicians to resolve the problem.

Did you press the right key? That's what happened to me and the dealer I have when I picked up mine. Since this is new to him (the dealer), we both were no idea why the system seems not responding. The acutal reason is, after I went home and played with it, I pressed the wrong button.
The voice command button is the one lower one on the left of the steering wheel. The two on the top are for the hands free phone, while the two below the 'hands free's are for the voice command.
Hope this is the same to you, otherwise, better have them replace whatever wrong with it.
P.S. Just for another stupid one you may get caught, I did, is 'how come my navi still so bright even I set it to auto to the brightness'. That is because I set the cockpit brightness to 'Max' and it overridden the 'Auto' setting.

I am selecting the "talk" button on the left side of the steering wheel. My salesperson also tried it and I know he knows how to use it as he showed me on a display car. We also check other setup options and it should talk to me.
The 04 TL Nav is different than other model/years so the service people are not yet familiar with it. Tomorrow the car goes in and I hope they find something simple like a unconnected wire or just reboot the Nav system software.

You need to go to the setup screen, somewhere in there there's an option to turn on/off voice feedback.

Yes, the feedback option is on. I have tried it on and off actually. The same goes for the setup 1 screen volume button and slider bar.
So no one else has a similar problem? Just my luck I guess. This is my first new car and my trade-in 88' Pontiac POS barely made it to the dealer.

One last suggestion which I'm sure you've already looked at: there are two "talk" buttons, one for the phone and one for the navigation. You're pushing the one on the bottom of the steering wheel right?

Volume???
I know you probably have tried this but what about the volume adjustment in the set-up screens. When I got my TL the volume was real low and I could barely hear over the radio. I raised the volume now it turn the radio volume all the way down then give the voice command. I know this is basic but just a thought.
Good luck!!!

mine is fine... i dont use many commands for these reasons:
1) some commands take awhile for the navi to "think" about
2) sometimes its more practical to just push a button or look at the clock instead of asking for time
3) I havent memorized all of the commands. so ill find more practical ones as i learn and actually use them

slowly getting used to it
the more I remember the commands, the more I'm really liking the voice control. I was gettin on it yesterday and got behind a stanky truck (gee, surprise in Georgia), and while turning I ticked the button and said "climate control recirculate" and it switched to internal while I was still hauling @$$ behind and around this guy. Really getting used to it.
And instead of coming off NAV to switch CD's and tracks "play CD 5" "CD play track 6" and it does it quite nicely for me. Or when bored with the CD and don't feel like reaching from a comfy reclined position "XM Channel 80".. yoink.. instant beats.
Sure there's a learning curve, but lord the enjoyment is becoming worth it. And on my trip back from Orlando I went thru the help menu's to start learning the voice commands, that was a big help.
Enjoy.

Googled and found this archived thread for future GPS and Nav ideas. Some of the ideas are now realized in the 04 TL.

Just heard from the serviceman at Acura that they have identified and fixed my voice response problem. It appears a faulty voice command box was installed. The fix was to replace the entire Nav/stereo unit and now my car has a voice.
This voice command box may have a role in understanding your voice commands so keep that in mind. Although some commands were carried-out by the system, not all of my commands were understood. Of course, I never heard the "Pardon?" response. I thought those failures were due to my high, "Jerry Lewis" like voice.
Recognizes my voice commands easily now. It talks back too, just like my wife.
ps.
I forgot to take the DVD's out of the unit as I did not think they would be replacing the entire NAV/Stereo, but they did and they also did not remove the DVD's prior to replacement. I did notice the missing DVD's and had to wait unitil they could attach the unit to another car and eject the disks.
