Angry Nasty surprise

Hi Folks,
I used to brag about my 2005 TL AT not long ago about how quiet and rattle free was. Well, no more.... I got 1000 miles on it and all of the sudden I have a bunch of small and annoying rattles coming from driver's door and back seats area.
I feel so frustrated that I spent so much money on a car that is becoming a rattle box. Anyway I will see the dealer next week and take it from there.
Too bad that the reputation of this wonderful car is stained by these small and frustrating problems.

I have read so much about the rattles that I started to listen for them myself.

I was on the highway the other day, and here they come, I thought. It was coming from the center console. I thought of the worst. To my supprise, when I lifted my plastic bottle of 24oz. Pepsi, I found 3 coins. I took care of that rattle myself.

I hope that will be the end of my rattles.

I thought I will share that story with you.

This is a good point. If your trouble-shooting rattles; take everything out of the interior that Acura did not put there. Start from there and have someone else drive while you listen for rattles.

Or, just play the excellent stereo.

I realized that if it wern't for reading about the rattles on the forums, I would not have ever noticed them. But, I agree with KilroyR1 - take everything out and listen for them.

when my CL Type S tranny was replaced in June 2004 I was driving home and it just wasn't the same, so I turned around and went back to my service rep. I asked him not to FUCK with me and to tell me what the BEST vehicle they had in the line up without problems. His answer: The RL (last gen, NOT the 05). He said to me the TL has SO many rattles customers are outraged ! I knew the tranny problems to well with the Auto 5 speed. I drove off with an 04 RL discounted for the first time at 36,500K to make room for the new 05's that were due the following month.
I so happy that I've NOT returned to the dealership in 11 months with not ONE issue ! It was Acura's best kept secret. I'm reading all kinds of issues with the 05 RL and SO happy I didn't buy a new production vehicle ! Lesson learned......

you know what I do? I roll down the window and my music is always blasting when I'm driving. I think my car rattles, but I don't think I'll ever notice because I'm a music person.

No doubt. That's what I do too. I take advantage of the XM.

It's the principal of the matter ! You should not have rattles with a $30K plus car ! I play music as well, but when you have a client in the car and you hear rattles.....not good......................

That saves me most of the time, too. However, when it's raining or really hot/cold, the windows are up, the stereo reasonable, and the rattles apparent (off and on). I'll take it back one of these days...

Every "non-Acura" item has been eliminated from this equation. The rattles are still there.

The door rattle is probably caused by the locking mechanism. On my first gen, the drivers door rattled like a mofo all of a sudden one day. I took it apart and it was those metal rods hitting each other. I stuck a little piece of sticky foam in there and now it's perfect. I have no rattles (btw I'm at 190 000km about, or 118 000mi). Get the dealer to check the rear deck too. That's a common place for rattles.

( Just for a minute)

Hey Fabvsix;
What are you doing over here? Things a little slow on the MDX Forum?

There are lots and lots of mainly 05 TL's that have so far been problem free. Is your MDX as good as you RL?

I have 4k mi on my TL, and only one REAL rattle, the upper storage door in the console,, If I open it, it stops.. I think I know how to fix it but havn't gotten around to it yet.

I do hear some faint creaks, and stuff when going over hwy expansion joints, but I don't consider them real rattles.. I wouldn't even have noticed them if not for the XM radio and the CD player.. In my old car I listened to rock music,, because there arn't any decent classical or jazz stations and it didn't have a CD.. Playing rock or jazz I don't hear them, playing classical or light jazz, sometimes I do.. Not going to worry about it unless they get worse.

If it wasn't for the rattles, no one would have anything to post comments about. The forums would be slow.

The MDX is so far good. Only have 4000 miles to date, as I don't drive much.....

To answer your question about the RL over the MDX, no comparo ! The RL is WAY better built, fit and finish than the MDX.

RL: 100% Japanese
MDX: 100% Canadian

The Japanese build better cars IN Japan !

One of the reasons we are getting this car is cause my dad(a lawyer) always drives his clients around in a ford taurus that has more rattles then the TL could possibly have, had tranny problems, bearing problems, leaks coolent and break fluid along with a mariad of other problems. For 33k, rattles are unacceptable, make the dealer fix it. On the brightside within the first 5 years(while on warrenty) everything that will rattle at some point, will have reached that point and been fixed under warrenty.

the thing is the dealer says it is characteristic of the design. When you own a car someday that has these kinds of issues you will know first hand the time it takes and the frustration to get them fixed. If they ever get fixed.

Honda has a design problem with their "sun roof's". The seal around them over time (summer heat/winter cold) makes a "creaking" noise that can drive one over the end. To test this, simply close your sun roof. Gently press against it. If you hear creaking noises, bring it to the dealership and ask them to simply "lube" it up as they are TOO familiar with this on-going ignored issue ! Btw it's across the board with "all" the top end models with sun roof's.....However as I said before the new TL's are known to have lots of rattles as it one of the biggest complaints about the TL and of course its "hush hush" when your buying the car !
