My TL-S vs. a 740i

I was driving back from Panama City Beach this weekend when I ended up stopping at a red light next to a nice looking BMW 740i. I didn't intend on racing, but when the light turned green, the sound from his engine made me instinctively floor my gas pedal.

This BMW never really had a chance. With each shift he fell further behind me. At no time did he gain even a foot on me. By the time I was at 65-75 he was a full car length behind me (we were in a 65 zone, so the speed was not that big of a deal). He made a left turn soon after and that was that.

I thought that V8 would give me a better run. I guess it is a pretty heavy car...

I suspect you are talking about an older model 7-series (740i). If so then he never really had a chance against you regardless of the V8. Yep, that car is very heavy; well over 2 tons, and only has 282HP. 0 - 60 time for it is almost 7 seconds. I don't know why he even wanted to challenge you.

His signature says 2002 TL-S WDP w/Navi - Alphawerks Headers - Comptech Icebox w/K&N filter - UR Pulley Set - NGK Iridium IX Plugs

So I'm guessing he has a 2002 TL-S with navi, headers, intake, pulley, Iridium spark plugs?

Good kill. If you were stock maybe the 740i depending on which year would have had better shot at you.

Nice.

I raced an older one in my 99 (x-state police) Tahoe and beat one by 2 car lengths to 150mph.

It was one of the newer 740i's, so I'm pretty happy with my results.

Give wackjum a prize - my signature says it all.

That's pretty good for a 240hp vehicle weighing in at 3300+lbs.

Also two different companies doing the tests 0.3 seconds is around 3 legnths faster correct? I don't know if the sport changed the gearing and engine or if it was simply astetics.. three legnths in the 1/4 is quite a difference, mind you we are splitting hairs here.

Just noticed the 60's are almost a second apart.. that must be a misprint, I copied and pasted the info so I know I didn't fudge it.
