My TL got injured, injured bad... (with photos)
While driving home from class today I got into an accident. I'm on a three lane road and I'm in the far right lane which is moving pretty good - 30-35 mph. All of a sudden a Ford Ranger comes out of nowhere and crushes me! He was in the on-coming side and the two lanes to my left were letting him turn left (my right). I didn't see this and he pulls out in front of me and crushes me while I'm going about 35mph.
Here are the pics:
On the way to the rental car lot via cop car:
Thankfully, no one was injured but my neck is pretty sore...
Yeah, as you can tell, I'm not too happy about this. The cop told me that it was the other guy's fault, but I hope I don't get screwed by his insurance and I hope the whole process goes smoothly. Is my baby totaled??!
What do you guys think?

new front end cosmetic stuff (new TL-S headlights, bumpers, misc grilles, 2 fenders) should be around 5K in parts with paint and labor. The headlights from the dealer are 1600 each, hood is about 400, fenders are 300 each, then paint and other stuff to add up to the rest. Then of course you have some of the hidden damage like that crushed impact absorber
BUT TO TOP IT OFF!
Your going to kick yourself in the butt because you got the car towed improperly! FLATBED ONLY, by using that type of tow truck you can damage the ACE structure of the car!

Make sure you go see a DR regarding your neck pain. Soft tissue injuries can be very serious. Glad to see no one was seriously injured. Sorry to see that happen. Good luck w/ everything.

Damn, glad everyone is okay... hopefully your neck soreness goes away soon. I don't think his insurance can screw you over - he was turning into oncoming traffic and didn't yeild the right of way to you.
Fitness Direct Service Group

That sucks. I don't think it's totaled, either. Since that looks like a company vehicle, the odds are in your favor it's insured properly. Definitely get your neck checked out and don't assume any pain is just going to just go away. Worst case, it should serve early notice to the other insurance company to be civil and treat you right.
This situation bugs the crap out of me and it happens all the time on my commute. People are putting courtesy before safety and common sense because they don't think far enough ahead or stop to consider if the crossing traffic is going to be hazardous move. You paid the price for it three people's lack of foresight. The guy should've realized that he couldn't see if your lane was clear and passed on the offer by the stopped cars to cross in front of them.

Glad your ok. Was there a "hows my driving and a number on the truck"? I would call that if he really pissed you off, but if he was cool about it and everything gets fixed and everyones ok, then no need to be like that.
I WOULD go to the doctor IMMEDIATELY. GOD FORBID that you have injuries two years later (can happen) there is no proof because you never went to get checked. Good luck.

Look at the way the bumper reinforcement is buckled. Both of the front rails are going to be sucked in. Frame pulls and repair at a minimum. They may end up needing to be sectioned. The lower tie bar is buckled inwards as well. That with the way the rails are buckled and you will likely need a core support. Add in a radiator, condensor, bumper, headlamps, replace the left fender, repair the hood and right fender, blend the doors, brackets and hardware = $6500 estimate.

Nope...airbags didn't deploy, which was weird to the cop...

Actually, from the owner's manual:
Flatbed is best
Wheel lift is acceptable
Sling is unacceptable.

I got to deal with insurance adjusters tomorrow. Who knows how much my estimates will be? It has a lot of miles on it so there is a shot it could be totaled. Thanks for all the support guys!

Sorry to hear.
I saw pretty much the same thing happen right in front of me quite a long time ago.
Since then, I won't leave space for people to turn across traffic in front of me. If the person making the turn isn't careful .... BAM! I don't want to be the guy who let some jackass cut across traffic and cause an accident.

Your airbag didn't go off because the force of the accident wasn't great enough to need an airbag deployment. You got lucky. You hit him in the right spot in which all that area you hit and being that low is a weak area. Your front end is stronger therefore you have less damage and him being a light pickup truck you also pushed him out of the way. If you had hit him more on an Offset your TL would probably have more damage but because you hit more center you got lucky. If your frame rails had even moved it would have caused the airbags to deploy since the sensor are right there. Your car is not totaled, ive seen worse here from other members who end up repairing and looks + drives like nothing happend.
BTW I think your mistaking your condensor for the radiator which I believe your condensor is toast.

The car is being towerd from the tow lot in west nashville to the body shop in franklin via FLAT BED. Haha! I should know the estimate in about two hours or so. State law for Tennessee for a car to be a total loss the cost to fix the car has to be above 75% of the cars total worth. Jim at Accurate Auto Body says Acuras hold their value really well so it has to be a pretty bad hit for it to be totaled. We'll see though. Keep yall updated...

And by the way... The state of tennessee pays for the totaled car, not the insurance companies. I thought that was kinda interesting...

I am not to sure bout that...^. Would the insurance company pay the state then? I work for an insurance company and that sounds wrong. anyway i LOVE how cops suddenly know about cars when they are at an accident sceen. "the air bags didnt go off, thats weird" is crap. like stated above the airbags need a head on collision at the right speed to go off. I hate when the fuz says stuff like that, it makes my job alot harder explaining to the insured that the cops know nothing about the car and it is fine!
Good luck man. it will all come down to numbers, the insurance company will look for used and aftermarket parts before anything else so the comment about the sheet metal and headlights are wrong. let us know what it comes out to!

Steve probably has a whiplash neck injury. Most likely will get better with rest and time. Go see your doctor if you're really concerned.
This shows that paying attention to the lanes next to yours is important too. Didn't you wonder why the two left lanes' traffic stopped while your lane is moving at ~35 mph?
Good luck all the same with the repair/replacement.
