yo dude... just a little info... the audi style knob with an "A" on it would prove to be quite a hot ticket item, afterall honda's use the same thread pitch throughout all of their vehicles... I'd jump on an audi "A" in a hot second, course it wuould have to be weighted

ps. your skills are pretty friggin neat... can you pm me when you get a chance, I need something done it is a custom piece :)

SlowRiderr 06-22-2009 01:47 PM

pics coming soon guys of finished m/t knob!

TlYungGun9 06-22-2009 04:58 PM

Awesome man! Do you feel a quicker shift with the heavier weight?

I wouldn't go as far to say that it is quicker, but I do appreciate the feel of the additional weight.

SlowRiderr 06-22-2009 07:02 PM

You've waited :) Here she is:

Brushed aluminum -- matches the interior perfectly.

A/T coming up next!

Laxplaya11385 06-22-2009 11:44 PM

amazing work!

does it attain the stock shift knob height? or is it set lower? If not, I think making the thread deeper would not only make it look better, but also give it a better feel when shifting.

SlowRiderr 06-23-2009 12:05 AM

I can make it either way :). Right now it sets a hair lower. I love the feel of it!

SlowRiderr 06-23-2009 01:06 AM

Been working away on the automatic transmission shift knob.

The people spoke, and I listened!

Yes, this will have powder coated lettering on the top.

HONgDA 06-23-2009 01:12 AM

I like the m/t knob design better. Simple and smooth.

bzyrice 06-23-2009 01:25 AM

Can you make this out of Titanium? I love the color of the Arc knobs.

myron 06-23-2009 09:58 AM

Could a m/t shift knob have powder coated letters too? If this is for sale I want it, this and a CT short shift kit would be pretty cool

Chris,
Fantastic work my friend! That knob looks awesome I can't wait to see it in person:thumbsup:

dragonlord 06-23-2009 11:05 AM

You have MAD skillz! I think the A/T knob styled after the M/T knob with black powdercoat letters is BEST! Good job!:toocool::wish:

VmtSquad 06-23-2009 12:53 PM

How can we buy this??? lol just messin with ya bro!!

Im sure you already know that you have amazing skills so I wont repeat it....lol

If you accept suggestions, I think you could take a look on how the OEM M/T is made and add a leather surrounding to that shift knob. The reason I say this, because one of my friend installed a polished knob and it gets DAMN HOT during summer, he has to put a towel over it during the day so he can drive his car after a day at the office.

Besides that, you had a good idea creating this and Im sure you could create a NEED in the acura TL community. People would be so interested in this that you woudnt be able to deleiver ;)

Keep going man!!!

SlowRiderr 07-05-2009 11:24 PM

Back from vacation. Will be updating more tomorrow.

piggydog 07-09-2009 10:26 AM

Definitely would be interested if this sat as low as possible. The stock one is set way too high.

ludachrisvt 07-09-2009 10:36 AM

countersunk with just shift points on mine please :)

MJ3 07-09-2009 11:13 AM

Congrats for taking the time to make a product that I'm sure is a winner.

LoveMyTL-S 07-09-2009 11:25 AM

The "type" in the S might look like its a different size on one side than the other. It is not -- it is just an optical illusion due to the flash and is the same exact size and depth across.

bzyrice 07-15-2009 06:28 PM

wow that looks awesome.. how about TL with Aspec on the bottom?! Since I do not have a type S..

dope! 07-15-2009 07:13 PM

The lettering isn't colored. It just shows where my mill would cut the metal.

dwb993 07-16-2009 10:33 PM

^^gotcha. Still beautiful, though. Can't wait for that vendor status. "One-Off Mod" I love it!

aznikon 07-17-2009 02:00 AM

omg.

you are so talented with the design work and you actually made the shift knob! Wow. Amazing. I can't wait until you put these into production, everyone is gonna want one! Btw how much does it cost to make one?

For this operation I use 2 machines.

Haas TM-1 with auto tool changer and 4th axis and not including tooling or tool holders, $35k+

http://www.haascnc.com/prod/pi/TM-2.jpg

Haas SL-10 CNC Lathe not including pneumatic chuck or other upgrades, base price $44,945

grsd03 07-20-2009 02:35 AM

nice work, its about time someone started looking at making custom shift knobs for our cars.

05TL6SPWDP 07-20-2009 11:43 AM

In reference to the first design. Wow!! looks great!! Be cool if you actually did the engraved areas blue to match the lights of the speedometer.

dragonlord 07-20-2009 02:42 PM

Blue like the gage lights. Maybe even CF!

This is the machine I had to rent out to mill my keys on:
http://www.haascnc.com/prod/pi/VF-5SS_lg.jpg

Using a bridgeport would have been the same price, so why not use the big beefy one that works faster and is a bit more precise

VF series is great. They are so quick and you can accessorize them to the end - they have a sweet probe system now that automatically sets work offsets, checks tools for wear and breakage, and checks the part when its done. I would love to get a VF-2 SS; it is the high speed machine with faster tool changes and faster rapids.
