My first TL

Hey TL drivers, ive been reading this forum for a few days now and every thread makes me love the TL more. i drive a 1992 Milano red prelude MT (2.2 non vtec). i love this car but these past few days i discovered a handful of things that need to be replaced and i rather just save the money to upgrade. for those who know this car you know the back seats are meant for midgets with no legs (no offense) so i deff wanted a 4door and some luxury. so then i discovered the TL especially since its a nice upgrade in HP.the prelude was about 130hp . i found a nice TL fully loaded 6 speed about 50k miles for 15 grand. great deal but it was bought from an insurance auction and a dealer fixed it up and is now seeling it and im not to sure if its worth buying this car even though its been in a accident.what do you guys think>?

Welcome,
there are different tools that you can use to your advantage when car shopping.
Use car fax. knowing that it has been in an accident the 2nd step is to go get it inspected by a local mechanic. after his diagnosis is when you should make a solid decision. remember, an educated consumer is a smart consumer.

there are also better deals to be had, mind you.

One thing to consider is the car could look different in person than the pictures. I went and test drove an '06 TL that had been wrecked. When I got there you could see the paint job on the hood was passable but wasn't perfect. Also the body line of the hood and the fender wasn't 100%. (the gap was slightly larger on one side) I ended up getting an '05 TL for more money but it was in mint condition.

Personally, I would pass on it, but I'm picky.
Good luck with your decision. Let us know what you get.

im afraid that it might be like that. since in the picture it seems they didnt bother putting it back to OEM and decided to go with a body kit and after market rims i wouldn't be surprised if i open the hood and i see the car being held by duct tape. im with you i think ill pass on it.. if im gonna spend money i would like a car that hasn't been in a accident. i would love to get a 07-08 type s as but its a 10 G difference. idk if 30 more HP is worth that much difference.

good decision. Yeah, I love the Type S also but the price tags on those are still pretty high.

That's a lot of miles. Unless real documents of maintenance exist, I'd pass of someone's "word".

I wouldn't touch that TL you listed in your first post. The repairs done have apparent corners cut (wrong side-skirts, aftermarket bumper that's a replica, etc) along with the mods. My suggestion to you is to look at an 05-06TL with either less than 85K miles or more than 110K miles. The reason for this is because the timing belt needs to be changed at 105K and can cost around 1K.

Agreed. That TL reminds me of what one of my friends does on a constant basis. He gets a salvage title totaled wreck. He gets it drivable, replaces OEM parts with bodykits, knock off rims, etc, very cheaply. The usual customers are younger people that see only the shiny rims and bodykit. I've told him before to not have people over looking at the cars when I'm there because I won't lie about it if asked. Anyway, this TL reminds me exactly of what he does and for that reason I would run, not walk away from it.

Sure it does, if he can get it and save a few grand in the process then I say why the hell not? I just got an 06 TL from the auction 3 weeks ago myself, light damage DPW, navi with 65K miles all fixed up will run me 7K, I just sold my 03 TL-S with 80K miles for 8K and got me this upgrade, and with 1K in price difference, i can spend that money on a A spec lip kit, rebuilt title or not who cares i didn't get the car to resell but to keep it and drive it, same thing with this kid, if he is getting a car that he'll hang onto for a while and save money in the process, he should totally do it... just my only have it inspected by a pro before hand, just to make sure that it wasn't totally fucked before

Um... Okay You are thinking in the Now. What about when its time to resell or trade? You won't get jack no mater how much money you put in that car. it'll be money wasted. You havent a clue what troubles may show up over time on that TL Why was it salvaged if it wasnt that much damaged?

^ if he drives that car for 10 years the sale price in year 2020 won't really matter... cause that car won't worth much with clean or rebuilt title
