My car got jacked!!

To make a long story short someone stole my keys, and then stole my car out of my driveway.. I was really upset but I got lucky, because the police called me at like 4am, and they had recovered the car. It was in a bad neighborhood , and they must have just went joyriding. So SDPD said they had it towed, and I had to pay 200$ just to get MY stolen car out of the lot. After a long ass night and 200$ poorer I checked my car. They really didnt take much except my Garmin GPS, all my change and my spray air freshener(WTF!). The asshole tried to yank my sub & amp out but couldnt get it free, as all the wire were all jacked up.

But all in all im grateful that I got it back, and it is still intact. But I have one question, whoever did this still has a set of keys. I am going to be changing my house locks today but is there anyway to get the immobilizer settings changed so that that key will not work anymore? I really dont know what else I can do to protect my car. Maybe a kill switch? It just really sucks..

wow, if someone stole my car and i got it back, i'd sell it. cuz to me, it feels like someone violated it, and i wouldn't want to have it back.

sell the car, and get a new one, until then, sit outside with a shotgun

Kill switches are gay. Get your car re-keyed. Insurance should be able to assist with covering costs.

Yes - Goto a dealership and get a new driver 1 and driver 2 key fob; let them know what happened. When you get the immob. chip programmed you have to bring ALL of the keys you want to have functional; so when they program the two new ones the stolen key will be deleted.. but verify that they have deleted it.. probably want to change your locks and stuff though on the car; odds are the person has your address from your reg/insurance card, and if their key still opens the doors then they can attempt it again... also make sure you remove their key fob transmitter id from the cars memory, otherwise they can use the keyfob to open the doors/windows

.. in short, call your insurance and tell them your car was stolen, you have it back, but the key is still gone so you need to have the whole car re-keyed, the immobilizer and keyfobs reprogrammed.. unless its cheaper to do it out of pocket ?

I agree. They should cover this in the same claim as the rest of the stuff, including the big gash in the front and rear bumpers that requires you to replace them (coughcoughronjonkit).

imj0257 09-23-2008 05:49 PM

i have lojack. if my car gets stolen and the police dont find it within 24 hrs i get $5k plus insurance

CJ0920 09-23-2008 07:11 PM

You should take the seats out and see if you can get new ones!!

I'm sorry to hear about that.

My son's RSX Type S was stolen out of our driveway - and we had the keys. And we don't exactly live in Crapville. :ugh:

It was found about a week later, stripped. It was a sorry sight - entire front end was gone, engine, hood, driver's seat. Oddly enough they left the wheels and tires - in fact I have them for sale in the Black Market. :wish:

get your car rekeyed ASAP, and if you had house keys with those keys, have the locks on your house rekeyed. Its good to see that you got your car back  remember when they rekey your car, 4 locks will need to be changed:

Driver door
Ignition
Glove box
Trunk Pass-through.

Maybe you can take this opportunity and if you have an 04-06, get the lasercut cylinders so you can have the cool switchblades and as well have a different lock, so if the theif comes he can't even stick the key into the car.

Thanks for the help guys.. Im gunna look into rekeying the car and what its gunna cost.. I was thinking about the switchblade key, might as well.. but yeah also looking into lojack..

They didnt check for fingerprints inside the car?

TeknoKing 09-24-2008 09:05 AM

How were your keys stolen?!??

CarrieLynn 09-24-2008 09:27 AM

Someone stole your keys and then stole your car?
I wonder how they knew where you lived? Maybe whoever stole your keys followed you home after they stole them....CREEPY!

lldknyll26 09-24-2008 02:17 PM

my etch anti theft program is supposed to reimburse me up to 40k . Please somebody, steal my now. Not now though. perhaps within next 4 yrs.

TeknoKing 09-24-2008 02:24 PM

^ address?

CarrieLynn 09-24-2008 03:49 PM

^ how would someone get your address from just having your keys?

pffpffpass 09-24-2008 04:03 PM

I had a few people over playing some beer pong, then went to the car like at 2am to grab a CD and it was gone.. So it must have been someone I know, or someone who knew of me... Either that or a crack head with some balls.. because the keys were in a bowl next to the door.. Pretty fucked up I know..

MichaelBenz 09-24-2008 04:07 PM

Just get new keys made and matched to the car. They usually start the process off by nix-ing all prior keys in the system so they wont work and then reprogramming what you want back in.

Trew 09-24-2008 05:10 PM

or Bushwick with the windows rolled up, doors locked, a Club installed and a hired, armed security guard on watch. it will go faster than in Manhattan:thumbsup:

Willie3.5 09-24-2008 05:16 PM

Sorry to hear, man. Get them re-keyed and get the switchblade keys. I heard the switchblade keys cost out the a**.

CarrieLynn 09-24-2008 08:21 PM

I would hate to think or suggest that someone you know had something to do with this but I think that may be the case.
I would defintially tell the cops this because all of the people that were at your house that night need to be investigated as well as friends of friends if you feel me...
Keep puttin the word out there. If it was someone you know the truth will get back to you, may not be this month or even this year but trust me, it'll come out!!
