good advice to know....

Also I would have them start working on the value of the car now, that way if it's low you can dispute it and work to obtain a higher value for the car that way you can settle as soon as possible.

A lot of times insurance companies don't give you a value until they have too, that way you're desperate and anxious to settle. So say you have to wait 3 weeks and they don't give you the value until day 22, they are hoping you just want the nightmare to be over and that you'll settle. So ask right now for a value, and if you feel it's low pull up comparables in your area and see what they're going for, the insurance company owes you actual cash value of the car, not blue book value. If you have any more questions feel free to shoot me a PM.

R*D*X*- yes, i do have gap insurance. That is the only reason that i don't panic so much.

Its a good thing that i haven't installed any aftermarket parts yet. I was going to start with it the weekend it got stolen. I got the progress sway bar (for sale now-local only) waiting on my garage and i almost ordered a CAI.

I actually always set my parking brake thats why i believe that they broke in the car.

towing service can easily cut the parking brakes underneat your car.. if its towing service.. Anyway the good this is u will get new 09 TL... Forget the lost and think the new tl coming to your door

30 days minimum usually before payoff. So you are not stuck with a Malibu indefinately my friend....only during your claim.

Allstate is very fast with their claims. I had two cars stolen before in San Diego and they worked pretty fast and deligently to get everything done.

As for your TL that sucks man just be fortunate though no one got hurt and that you have insurance to cover it. Only way they could have even taken your car is if someone towed it unless you see broken glass around the area of your car.

Sorry about the loss. Hopefully it all gets sorted out soon.

I too didn't think the TL was stealable. I'm assuming they throw it on the back of a tow truck and then take it to a chop shop to take parts? Pretty sure it would be a bitch to get a key cut for it. Not sure what the procedure is at the dealer.

Plus I think you need to put the chip together with the key so the car will even start or do anything. Is there any broken glass around your car at all?

Unhappy

magiech. sorry to hear about your TL. please re-post with any info as to what your insurance carrier did as far as replacement value.

One downside to owning a popular model car, Acura, Honda or otherwise is the black market for parts is pretty active. The major pieces have a paper bar code tag w/VIN on them, but that's not gonna stop a crook.

Thanks again for support ang concern. I just found out that my neighbor's nissan titan fully with rims loaded also got stolen 2 months ago. Might be the same guy doing it? One thing is for sure he chooses carefully for what car he wants coz everything here in the neighborhood is either older model cars or just plain jane honda civic or accord. I might re-think about buying another TL...

Well, the insurance company still hasn't contacted me since the last time we talk. Im with USAA. My co-workers told me that they are pretty good with any claims...hopefully with mine too.

Really can happen with any car. A thief could even break into your garage, then tow your car when your not home for example. Thefts with tow trucks/flatbeds are not uncommon. It the preventive measures that help. Properly installed Lowjack with early detection is a great device, there are others as well , along with preventive measures.

about the glass breakage: if u have tinted windows, they glass doesnt go all over the place...a very little bit will end up on the outside 95% of the glass will remain intact and u just push it inside the car and then break it more to conceal it inside the car...the reason i know is because my car was broken into infront of my house(not my tl) and there was only a few small pieces of glass around the car, almost all of it inside the car

No i don't have Lojack.

Even if I do, i don't want them to find it anyway. It will probably way too fuck up already or stripped down to the bones.

I'm in Jax too. What part of town are you in? I'm on the Westside near Blanding. I there is a gang that hangs out around 103rd. Too close for comfort. I used to have USAA and they are good. Good thing you have GAP insurance. I have it as well through my credit union. Good luck with USAA.

Invest in a system called mobile guardian, it allows GPS tracking with speed traps and the ability to do other things. Its a one time fee and then you get the tracking as long as you own the car. What I would do is get another car after the check is cut, install the mobile guardian and install a driveway sensor. My buddy is paranoid and has a driveway sensor which will sound a LOUD alarm when a car enters/leaves the driveway.
