My 06 TL Got Crunched!
I just bought my TL in March and I am so upset that I got hit. I was on the freeway...on my way to work. Traffic started to slow down so I adjusted my speed to the current conditions. I heard the tires screeching behind me. I looked up and tried to move out of the way. The lady swerved to the left, lost control of her vehicle and hit me on the rear driver side. OMG...I was so fucking pissed.
I pulled off to the shoulder. She apologized a bunch of times and admited fault. She told me that she wasn't paying attention and didn't know what she was doing. I don't think she wanted me to call the police because she told me they would not come out if no one was injured. I called anyways and the CHP had no problem coming out and taking a report. I didn't say much to her nor did I look at the damage to her car. The accident wasn't my fault, so my focus was elsewhere. She has insurance, but for some bizarre reason, she won't return her agent's calls.
I have brusing across my chest and on my lower abdomen from the seatbelt tightening. I recently had surgery in my abdominal area and my incision is bruised. This sucks! Now it's going to take me longer to recover.
I am sharing my photos. I took my car in for an estimate today, but I was not comfortable with the shop my insurance recommended. The estimator said he would order the door from Acura and he gave me a strange look when I told him that I wanted to see proof of that. For the panel, he wants to use "metal fillers" and I don't know what that is. Bondo comes to mind and I don't want that shit.

Sorry to hear about your accident. I would definately recommend finding another shop. You may want to go to your acura dealer and ask who they would recommend. I would definately stay away from any type of metal fillers (bondo, etc.). Insist on factory parts, and your are smart to ask for proof of origin on any parts, especially with the chop shop industry being what it is today.
That looks like the lady really tagged you pretty good. I would also say you may want to consider making an appointment with your doctor for an opinion, being so recently recovered from abndominal surgery.
Good Luck.

Sorry to hear of your accident.
Is there any benefit for you to use the shop recommended by your insurance?
If not, take it back to the dealership. i believe they waranty their work. i might be wrong tho.

One on the right for me
As for the shop you should use - go by word of mouth. You are under no obligation to go to the shop the Insurance tells you to go to. They have lists of shops they work with but that does not limit you to the ones on the list. If you have a favorite shop or a buddy uses one down the road from you, get an estimate from them and have them explain how they are going to fix the car.

definatly you will need a new door, but as for that panel that got a bid crucnched up, i think cutting it out, reforming it and welding it back on would be a good idea. thats just my

No, you don't have the use the shop that the insurance company recommends.
HOWEVER: You *should* use a shop that is on their "approved list". If you encounter any problems with the repairs, and you didn't use a shop on their approved list, you're on your own to fight the battle with the shop. If you use an approved shop, the insurance company will intervene to get the work corrected, or even pay for you to go to a different shop.
Good luck w/ the repairs.

If you have the back panel replaced, in whole or in part, there's going to be metal fillers. Plus a lot of welding and chances for misalignment between lots of parts. There's nothing wrong with metal fillers, if done competently. Acura uses them from the factory! (How do people think the roof blends into the rear quarter panel so well, if fillers aren't used?)

I think they wiii reskin rather than replace the door. When complete make sure all lines are straight and not much bondo on the inner seams. Good suggestion to see doctor because of your recent surgery. Accidents, happen just make sure you are satisfied with the repair and repaint. It's not as bad as it might have been.

Did the seatbelts just lock or did the pretensioners kick in? If so, the pretentioner is a one time use pyro unit that needs to be replaced, so make sure that is done and paid for too, I imagine it is pricy.
Here is one such unit:

A little filler in that area is not a big deal at all. If you had crunched your entire quarter and they wanted to filler it, then I would have a problem.
You should have no problem.
If you are in OC, I recommend Anaheim Hills Auto Body. They did great work and matched my paint really well.

I just got hit 5 weeks ago (old man ran stop sign, t-boned my 3 month old car). So I totally feel your pain. At least you're not paying for it!
I did not go with the shop recommended by the insurance company, as there was only one in the area. I selected a high end body shop where a family member took her BMW 535 in for a dent and it came back flawless. When I asked the insurance gal exactly what I would be losing by going with my own shop, she said "nothing, all we're doing is telling you that WE guarantee the work, but most body shops today will guarantee their own work", which I double checked with the shop, and they assured me I will get a full, "as long as you own the car" guarantee. So go with what's best.
That said...hopefully mine will be done this week. Had to replace a door, 2 fenders, 2 wheels, front seat cover, glove box, and all the airbags on the passenger side. Over $10,500 and they still didn't total it.
