Is the MPG gauge (fairly) accurate?

Hi, just bought my first Acura. 2004 TL 157K. Great car, very well maintained. Painful on fuel though coming from a (bought back) VW TDI and having to buy Premium gas. Anyway, been trying to get a true read on my gas mileage and was wondering if anyone could shed light on if the MPG gauge was accurate. Thanks in advance.

Do a manual hand calculation to confirm . Older car so probably needs a tune up, new plugs, PCC, cats probably not working at max efficiency, O2 sensors and the like

Fairly, yes. And compared to that TDI you will be sorely dissapointed in mpg comparisons. Probably half the mpg hahaha. The TL does everything else better though.

Thanks. Plugs were done at 110K with timing belt, serpentine, and water pump. Not sure about PCC (or what a PCC is for that matter) or the cats and O2 sensors. Probably have to have my mechanic evaluate those?? Thanks.

So painful to watch how quickly that gas needle drops in comparison. Great car though so far. Thanks for feedback.

My MID is pretty much spot-on with my manual calculations.

considering there was a class action suit that was settled to extend warranty mileage by 5%, I'd say it's within 15%. Not what I'd call accurate, but accurate enough.
