The MID is your little computer screen in the cluster
I change my oil every about 3000 mile with mobil1 fully synthetic and a bottle of seafoam.
I drive alot, and I want this motor to last.

First, good to see you're of a mind to do your own oil changes. Now a few things you may wish to consider.
Read your owner's manual. If you did, you would know what the MID is, what it does, and what it can tell you. Your manual is your friend.
From the sound of your questions, I must ask. Have you a history of doing your own oil changes? If not, might I suggest to do some searching on this site for recommendations, little tidbits, and other valuable information. It would help you out a lot.
Some basics;
o Your crankcase takes 4.5 U.S. quarts.
o The recommended weight is on your filler cap (5W/20).
o I use a Mobil 1 M1-104 filter on both of my 3G TL's ('04 and '05).
o Torque the drainplug to 29 ft/lbs, or 360 in/lbs.
o Use a new aluminum washer at each change.
o I change the oil in my '04 manual every 4000 miles (MID usually reads 20-30%).
o I do the '05 automatic every 5000 miles (MID usually reads 40%).
There are others but this oughta get you started.

Well use Mobil 1 synthetic and i know you can go as long as 5 or 6,000 miles before changing it but I still change it every 3,000. Then reset the (change oil) display. its uasly around 40% when i change it.

The oil life crap is actually the service reminder crap - it reminds you of more crap than just crappy oil. For filter, I usually get the M-110 along with the Mobil 1. Definitely, no need to change synthetic earlier than the mid.

Do not change your oil when the MID reads 40%. You are wasting money and oil.
Do a search on oil changes. There are some good write ups on how to do them properly. Dont forget to get a good oil filter and reset the MID after the oil change.

Lol, this thread is epic.
First of all, it doesn't matter as much if you change synthetic from 40% or 5% just make sure you change it before its 0. It may help a very little bit in the long run, but you'll also be spending at least 1k in extra oil throughout the life of your car. The MID for the oil is the oil life or the computer display in your odometer area which includes your MPG, your Miles of your car, etc... If you use Mobil 1 synthetic make sure to get Mobil 1 Extended Performance with a Mobil 1 synthetic oil filter. Mobil 1 won't give you more HP, but it may "feel like it" as in smoother acceleration and power. Just pay attention to your MID on maintenance besides things like tires, transmission fluid, and stuff like that and you should be fine.
