Mobil 1 oil filter for 04 acura TL, M1-104 or M1-110?
so I looked in the book and the listed the 04 as using part m1-104 and the 05-07 using m1-110. What's the difference. The M1-104 was a bit wider but I would assume the 04-08's use the same filters.

The book at my Walmart lists M1-110 for an '04 and for all years beyond. Not sure what book your looking at.
I just switched to Pure one. You can get them now for $3 each (limit of two) with the current rebate:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GIVEII
Even without the rebate, they're only $5 each (order 6 for free shipping). I just ordered 6 for a net cost of $4.33 each (after rebate).

Both will work, but the "correct" filter is the M1-110.. The reason for the ambiguity, is because many vendor's cross-references for the 04' are actually wrong, because the vendors mistakenly put 2G cross references in for the 04'.
The oil filter will actually work, (as I used my left-over M1-204 from my 2G TL on my 3G TL), however others will not. Such as the air filter... The Air Filter specified for the 04' in many of the vendor's cross references, is for the 03' TL, and will not fit a 3G TL. If you lookup the numbers for the 05'+, you should be golden...

When I bought my '04 in July of that year, the parts books at the local AutoZone type stores listed the M1-104 as the correct replacement filter. Within the year, this had changed to the M1-110 model. I have used the M1-104 in both of my TL's ('04 and '05)in every oil change without problem.

Honda switched to the smaller style filter a few years ago for all their cars. Mobil-1 then started making the M1-110 filter as result and the latest books reflect the updated filter. All Hondas spec the 110 now except for the Insight and S2k.
So the short answer is you can use either one. As for which one is better, who knows...
Some of the later hondas were designed with the smaller filter in mind. For example, my brothers 07 Civic Si doesn't fit the 104 due to an exhaust heat sheild...

Hah! That used to be Walmart's regular price. Now their Mobil-1 is $23 and they stopped carying the M1 filters. I was very dissapointed...

The S-2000 sized filter fits the TL no problem I haven't used anything else since the 3rd oil change.
