Exclamation Mobil 1 5W-20 Oil Info from Mobil 1

Straight from the horses mouth... I couldn't find the 5w-20 and decided to write to Mobil 1 directly and get the scoop! Here is the response I got just yesterday!

Mobil1 5W20 motor oil is a new product that was launched this month so it may take a few weeks to get circulated. You can check your local Wal-Mart, Autozone, Pep Boys, Advance Autopart Stores. You may also contact Mobil at 1-800-662-4525 option1 and we can search big Mobil Distributors for you as well.

Just and FYI for the forum peeps!

According to Mobil's website, the above is not exactly the case. The 5w-20 oil is not available in Mobil 1 fully synthetic. What are available in the 5w-20 weights is Mobil Clean 5000, a fully dino oil, and Mobil Clean 7500, a semi-synthetic. My guess is that the 7500 oil may be fine for our TLs depending on the additive package and price.

I'm sorry, Sir, but you're incorrect. Mobil1 just updated their oil lineup.

I've been using 5W-30 for my TL (Mobil 1 syn) since they didn't have 5W-20 available and 0w-20 was too thin for me. Now, my question is,,, should i continue using MOBIL 1--- 5W-30 or change back to 5W-20 since they'll have it soon?

Road Rage... your opinion? anybody?

Even though the 5w-20 is going to be available, I actually plan on still using 5w-30 Mobil 1 anyways... From what I've read here, the 5w-20 "requirement" is in part due to emissions and regulations that make the EPA happy... The 5w-30 will provide a little thicker film and provide that little bit more protection at the expense of about 2% loss of gas mileage... Nothing in my book for some extra protection... I'm off to Pep Boys today actually to get some Mobil 1 5w-30.

I aint no RR... But I read real good like, and these forums are full of awesome info... LOL

I stand (or sit) corrected. You are quite right. The plethora of Mobil products is confusing, but we now have expanded choices.
DarkWraith33: Your logic regarding using the 5w-30 has merit. I think even using the 10w-30 syn would be okay.

I considered using 5w-30 in the winter and 10w-30 for the summer, but felt I was over-analyzing the situation entirely too much. Sure it get's cold here, but not THAT COLD all the time. Here and there, sure... But not like for a real extended period of time. (likewise, it is never insanely hot here either)

Thats why I decided on the 5w-30 year round. It will have plenty of flow in the winter and will be just fine for the summer as well. My
