Manual transmission mode

Manual transmission mode
I have an 07 tl. I have the option to put it in manual mode, where you have the option to shift the gears yourself. On BMWs if you put it in this mode you can get on the gas and if you don't shift the car will shift even though you are in manual mode. Will the tls do this as well?

Depends. In some cases yes, particularlly downshifts. Upshifts, not so much (maybe occasionally due to Grade Logic), but usually it'll just bounce off the rev limiter.
Check the Owners Manual for details. If you don't have one register at http://owners.acura.com/landing.aspx and you can view or download an Abobe version.

the base TL will downshift to first at anything lower than 10 mph, and it won't let you go into first anything above that. you know, now that i think about it, it doesnt really downshift when you ask it too like if your trying to pass or just want to fly.

For the most part, it shifts when I want it to, but its super annoying when your at just above a crawl, and it jumps to 2nd, and then when you go to hit it (when traffic magically opens up,) well, you're stuck in 2nd...
It only goes back to 1st at close to WOT, can't do it manually unless you are not moving.

In manual mode/sport shift, they'll downshift from any gear (5th, say) to first as your speed decreases (if you don't do it yourself).
Here's another thing: It's got a "2nd gear start". From a stop (or near stop), put it manually into 2nd and it will stay in 2nd until you change it. So in a parking lot or slow traffic, for instance, you don't have to keep moving it out of 1st.
All in the owners manual.

^ Let the car do your downshifting when you're coming to a stop ..

You can't hurt it, it's all electronic. The shifter is not physically connected to the trans except to engage the parking pawl.
The ECU has the final say as to what the trans does.
The reason it downshifts automatically even when in manual mode is to protect people from themselves. Having it in a high gear at low speed heats up the fluid quickly. Even upshifting at an rpm above the stall speed of the convertor will greatly reduce heat.
