Malfunction Light

Anybody get the amber malfunction light on the dash yet? Its right under the headlight indicator. Mine came on last week while I was driving. I immediately pulled over and referred to the manual. Manual stated that it could be a problem with the emissions and prolonged driving could damage the engine. At this point I lost all my religion because the car is only 3 mos old and has only 2500 miles on it. Then I read a little further and it also stated that the gas cap could be loose and it could be giving a false reading. I got out of the car and sure enough the gas cap was loose. I live in Jersey and they pump your gas over here! Manual also stated that you probably have to run the car several times before the light goes out. Well this was last Wed. when the light came on and it finally went off today! Word to the wise! If someone pumps your gas check your cap to make sure its on tight or you will have to look at that anoying light for 4-5 days

Yes, I have the problem. Its not that serious. Most problems in the manual tell you to visit a dealer ASAP, the one for the malfunction light just tells you to contact a dealer or something. Makes it sound less serious, because it is. Anyway, I use Rallye in Roslyn and they figured out the problem on someone elses car. For me, the light is usually always on and blinks in VTEC range... and as you would expect, it is a valve problem. They ordered the new valve as it was on backorder and it came in a week ago, car gets fixed tomorrow.

Are you experiencing low MPG also? I know my problem has caused me to get around 16 MPG.

In this kind of mechanical issue, sorry, your specs like that cannot do any help. The last 6-digit-VIN-numbers is more helpful in this case. This VIN makes us know if your car requires the additional firmware/software upgrade besides the replacement issues of sensors, valves controller, coil packs, etc.

IMHO.

Checking with your dealer and inspecting the error codes would be the right way to do. Who knows if your 04TL is just like all other 04TLs' issues? If so, it's the easy fix.

If not, you got to find the solutions asap.
