Major service at 15K for TL???

Hi,

I'm in Boston area and I want to know if you follow the message from the car to do the service. My 05 TL is due for A1 service(oil change and tire rotation) according to the MID message but when I called my dealer to make an appointment they asked me to do a 15K major service and would cost me ~$320. The car has only 16K miles on it. Why does it need a "major" service? Last time I took my car for service at 11k miles they asked me to do a 7500 mile servie which was $168. I though it was a rip-off. So this time I don't think I will go there again.

How much do you pay for the services? Anyone in Boston aera? How is AcuraBoston 's service?

Many thanks.

There are a number of threads about mileage vs. MID servicings. Your dealer probably uses mileage in determining service schedules. Your owners manual has the necessary info regarding servicing. Show it to your dealer and have him show you where it indicates miles. Otherwise just tell them what you want done, i.e. oil/filter change, tire rotation or take it to your mechanic to do it and keep the receipts. My last service (A1) at the dealer was about $38 and change (oil/filter change & rotation, visual inspections).

Yikes! I agree with Hawhyen51.

I had my B1 service around 10K miles and it was only $70 from the dealer. B1 involves oil change, tire rotation, fluid check, etc.

I think you should call other dealerships to compare prices...

I am currently at 12k miles. I did my A1 service at 6k for $49, called a couple dealers and price ranges from $49 to $90.

Last week went in for B1 service at 12k for $79. I called 5 dealerships, price varies from $79 to $179!! When I asked what needs to be done, they all tell me the same things.

While we are talking about services... Last time at dealership (~10K miles) I asked to change transmission fluid (I'm a little paranoid after I had had two transmissions changes on my old 2000 TL). Dealer checked the fluid and told me that I'm fine, but he also told me that that change would cost me some ridiculous amount - I forgot the exact number, but it's in hundreds of dollars ($300?) Has anyone done the change - not the flush, just the change - and how much did it cost?

Yep, Charlotte Acura dealer wanted a lot of cash too change the tranny fluid. Took it to the local Honda dealer after verifying that they use the EXACT same fluid and it cost me a grand total of $38.00 LOL

Hey brother, A1 is just oil change and tire rotation. I had my regular mechanic in Braintree do it for $25.00. As other's have stated there are tons of posts on here for each service contents.

Cheers!

I am taking my 05 TL in for the 10,000 mile service in two weeks and it includes what datmrman mentions above; the dealer told me it will cost about $99.

I will be pissed if I have to take it in another 5,000 miles for service again...

However, I do always follow what the manual says; when it comes time to trade this sucker in eventually, I want to have all of the service completed (at the same dealership) and have proof (which my dealer has their own booklet that they stamp each time it is in, even for an oil change).

My dealer looks for stuff like that. When I traded in my 04 Accord V6 MT coupe for the TL...they wanted to see where it was serviced and how often, etc.

Your dealer is 1) not following the TL maintenance recommendations, and 2) is overcharging by an incredible amount.
The 15K service (for most cars, not the TL) should have been $150 maximum assuming change of engine air filters, etc. It is usually termed a "minor" service, as the "major" service is at 45K miles (valve adjust, plug changes, etc.). I have not heard of a Japanese car service place charging as much as $168 on a 7500 service either- it's only an oil change and visual inspections (maybe a wiper blade insert change, depending on dealership).
Your dealership wouldn't happen to service a German make as well, would it? Those prices sound like BMW service prices.

Thanks for everyone's reply. I was ripped-off on the B1 for sure but I won't go to that dealer again this time.

And the name of that dealer is: Clair Acura in East Whapole, MA. Bad, bad, bad.

Between family and friends we have purchased over 8 vehicles from the Clair family (mainly Toyota's) so I went there first to buy my TL. Well suffice it to say my "relationship" with Clair had zero bearing on their "best offer". I bought mine at Acura of Boston.

My guy in Braintree is Geyer's Garage, ask for George. He's serviced all of our vehicles since 1994 (we returned to area). He's extremely fair and does imports without any problems.

Cheers!
