Is the Magvest oil fliter magnet system effective and for real?????

Found the ad in Autoweek where it claims to totally retain all the harmful smaller metal particles inside the oil filter. Its clamped around the stock filter, has extremely powerful magnets and helps keep the oil totally free of metal particles. Anyone use this system or heard anything about it-good or bad?? Would be worth the $50 if it is legit and effective, especially if you plan to keep the car for awhile. Lets hear from any users.

I think thats what filters are for. If its smaller than what a good filter picks up then I would doubt that it can cause any damage.

If it had any merit then mfgrs would sell them in the oil filter. How hard would it be to magnetize the oil filter or stick a magnet inside the filter.

Just a thought:
If you stick a magnet to a piece of sheet metal, the other side of the sheet metal isn't magnetic. The magnetic lines of flux travel through the sheet metal and back to the other pole of the magnet.
So it sounds like BS to me, seeing how the oil filter is sheet metal.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is true. It's called a "faraday cage". It would be a better use of your money to just buy a better quality filter (one where the filter paper has smaller holes but with more surface area, etc)

Or use a Magnetic drain plug... When I had my 1972 Dodge Demon I had one, it would have tiny particles all over it.
