Wow that its gutsy shit. Stealing a guy's A-Spec lip at his house!

Either he will sell it on ebay or has a TL or a friend has a TL that they would prolly try to use it for. But still, that is fucking wrong. Sorry to hear

They really scuffed up the bumper pretty badly. Gauging by the damage left on the bumper it probably only took them about 2 minutes to remove.

What I don't understand is how the aspec kit didn't break in half as they were trying to pry it off.

People will definitely get pissed at me for saying this, but I truely believe that this is the reason you probably got burned.

-Some shady bodyshops tend to jack shit from other cars around the area, or even further away from them to get the money for the parts and pocketing it. Any replacement component doesn't have a vin number so of course they can shave the vin on the bumper, door, or whatever they steal and mount on the car they're repairing. They also have intimate knowledge of the car they're going to jack so they know how to it is installed and how to take it apart quickly.

There's a high chance that whoever stole the kit will be using it on their own car or knows the party that will- you won't see any item in Craig's List I suspect. There can't be a huge market for used aspect kits when you can buy a new one for $350. If they wanted to resell stuff they would have gotten your wheels instead.

This reminds me of what was going on in the early 80's in California. I had a Kamei? air dam on my Scirocco that was bolted on and the thieves made out with it in a Dorm parking structure at San Jose State. I probably owned it 3-4 months before it got ripped off. Rear window louvers were also getting stolen very easily since they also used double-stick tape similar to the aspect kit. My guess is it's a kid that has a TL, but really can't afford to modify it and he just happens to drive a WDP TL. Don't be surprised if the rear kit gets taken too- I speak with lots of experience on being a theft victim: radios, airdams, etc. I think that is one reason I haven't done a lot of exterior mods even now that my car is garaged.

For the rear lip and future front lip, make sure you mark the back side with a tag like license plate number or something so you can tell your lip if it's installed on another car. There's a decent chance you might see that car around the neighborhood with your old lip on it. The ID marks could give you a case for pressing charges if you get lucky and find the old lip.

Aww man, that really sucks. Just when I taught I would have nothing to worry about. Parking your car in NY is taking a 50/50 chance of something happening everytime you press your key fob to close your doors. Did they unscrew it or just ripped it off?

This is unbelievable, what lowlife will steal an aspec kit? I feel sorry for you bro. I live in Queens as well and I have to constantly watch my TL, even though it is stock. And if the asshole who stole the front lip to put on his TL, you should be gang raped and shot because why would you steal from your own?

I have been living here all my life and I can honestly say it is horrible out here. I had my TL for almost 2 years. I kept it dirty and stock but when I was involved in an accident, I had it polished up looking brand new with full aspec kit. A month and a half later, The car was stolen and it was a total loss. Horrible, horrible, horrible.

fuck the alarm for ur car

invest it in security cameras

for about the same price, u can have evidence of whoever did it and possible a face shot of them.

http://www.surveillance-video.com/4csvd250l.html

split the costs with whoever lives there.

Wow that's f***ing terrible, when you install the next one make sure you use some kind of gorrilla glue or something, so it won't be so easy to steal.

First off...my apologies to the OP for hijacking your thread.

I have been away from the forum for sometime now..been busy with work and other stuff. I just did a google search of ppl stealing lip kits and it brought me back to AZ.

Last night, my rear lip was stolen. However, they took a short cut..no taking the bolts off and such....They simply SAWED it off and now I have to replace the entire rear bumper!!!! I called Geico and they say that they don't need me to file a police report but its recommended just to have everything on paper.

From your experience...how much does it cost to replace a bumper...and a rear lip with prime and paint? I have full coverage but there is a $500 deductible.

And for the record..yes, I also live in queens.

faydo- you can probably find a used bumper on eBay or somewhere and just have it repainted, that's what I'd do I'd say you get away with less than $500 buying a bumper/repainting it.

Wow this stuff was going on the last big recession in the early 80's too. Must be a sign of the times I guess.

Good luck- I remember having a $50 deductible those days because my VW Scirocco was getting raped a few times a year. I often wondered if the aspec kit would get stolen since it's only held on by tape. Rear window louvers use to get stolen back in the 80's and those were held on by tape as well.

But this is the bumper, lip and paint for both. wouldn't that come up to more than $500?

Someone stole the seats off my S2000 after 2 months of ownership. Never think that would happen to an Acura as this car is not in the reach of most ricers.
