Lubrication Engineers 8530 oil 5w30

I have been contemplating the Redline 5w30 and 5w20 and came across an old thread from around 2004-2005 on the Le 8530 and Le 8130. Road Rage spoke highly of the Lubrication Engineers oil, but all the threads I can find are 6-7 years old.

I know I would probably be fine with a dino oil, or synthetic, changed regularly but as some one once said if you are going to go synthetic go big or go home! Thanks IHC!

Basically, curious if anyone is using either of the Lubrication Engineers oils and what they think. I got a quote for the 8530 shipped for $204 for 24 qts. Looks like it might be a few dollars less than the Redline, but price really is not a factor at this level IMHO.

From what I have learned on the other threads HTHS is important and the 8530 has a HTHS of 3.23 the 10w30 (8130) has a HTHS of 3.7.

Oh, and sorry for yet another oil thread.....

Thanks in advance.

Why not just go for an off the shelf synthetic like Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra?

Here is the spec sheet for the PP: http://www.epc.shell.com/Docs/GPCDOC...1008270057.pdf

And compared to your 8530 there the only thing the 8530 has going for it is a lower no ack, everything else is similar. TBN of 6.2 for the 8530 is low, I wouldn't spend that kinda coin on oil that will perform similar to regular oil.

Redline is quite a bit better then both the 8530 and Pennzoil Platinum due to its robust additive package as well as base oil but is not necessary for Honda motors heck even Pennzoil Platinum meets and exceeds the honda's HTO-06 testing (for the Acura RDX)

Save your money, go Redline or go Pennzoil.

Hey Kodiak373,

I work for Lubrication Engineers of Canada. Just for your knowledge, 8530 is made out of mix of highest quality paraffinic and synthetic base stocks. The additive chemistry makes this oil very unique for engine protection against wear. I started working for LE 6 months back and I didnt know much about their oil before that. I started using 8530 in my Honda Civic (03) with 210K. Now, I can feel the difference in my engine sound and my car feels much smoother as well. Remember, oil filter matters as much as oil. You probably have to change oil every 5000 miles for first couple times as it will remove all the previous contamination and filter will clog faster as well.
My next goal is to get my transmission oil changed to LE's 1150. Right now, my transmission sticks when it's cold and 03 civics are famous for transmission issues.
