Unhappy Looking for peace of mind, or advice....

I have a 2004 TL Auto, bought it a few months ago, @ 154,000 and It has 161,000 miles on it now. I've kinda become really paranoid about the transmission failing after reading so much about them. Mine shifts fine 90% of the time but sometimes if I drive like a grandma it gets shaking at 25mph till I speed up.

I have replaced the fluid 3x3 with Redline D4. And Replaced 3rd and 4th gear pressure sensors.

My question is, do I sell this beautiful car I'm in love with for fear of the transmission dropping? Or do I keep it? Did I maybe get a good AT if its made it this far?

Lemme know what you guys think, and if there is anything I'm missing.

was timing belt replaced back at 105k?

if ur driving like a grandma u may be "chugging" the engine at low rpms

I think you're just being paranoid and nit-picking.

seems like u did the proper preventative maintenance

keep it

yep that was part of the deal I made with the dealer, they changed the timing belt and water pump (paper said it was leaking). and yeah I have a tendency to do that. but being jobless and 21 right now it makes me super paranoid to have my most valuable tool possibly fail and cost me a lot of money ya know?

rarely but yeah. it will only do it if I baby it. I have read that it could be the engine mounts or the EGR valve too. haven't done anything to either of those.

Take it to redline once in awhile! Hondas like to be, and are built to be reved! Like my Grandpa used to say "take it out and blow the carbon out of it once in awhile"!!

oh I do! haha I love how powerful this car is then I can settle down and still get 28mpg. I'm gonna get a trans cooler put in, just for more peace of mind. idk why I'm so paranoid. I did buy a beefed up Honda after all

Everytime I drive and see some nice family driving their TL, i want to yell at them and warn them about the OEM transmission fluid. Because who would want to see a nice family with 2 kids and a dog be sad when their "reliable" luxury car is on the road after their transmission failed.

...Alas... instead i just rev my engine and zip by

Worst comes to worst, if the transmission takes a dump, it's cheaper to fix the transmission than buy a new car.

My 91 MR2 was still alive @210k with its original engine and tranny, i don't see why your 04 TL wouldn't survive any longer than that since it comes with better and newer technology....

Are your symptoms exactly like the guy below?... Around 25-30mph you feel like the car is going over the rumble strips on the shoulder of the highway?..If so, I have the same exact problem... I planned to change the tranny fluid and pressure switches, but later learned that wont actually fix that issue. I'm taking the car in tomorrow and will update you on what is needed for repair. Side note - i had this same exact issue on my 2000 Acura TL and the tranny needed to be replaced.

Does your car feel like your driving over rumble strips ( kinda like entering a toll both to get your attention )? If you drive between 25-30 with lightly pressing the gas peddle the car shudders right? But if you go through 25-30 with a WOT the car wont shutter right? If you answered yes to all this. I have the same exact issue. I'm taking it in tomorrow to have it looked at. Will update you guys.

1. Get a job
2. If the AT fails, find a 6MT to swap

I wouldnt say rumble strips. it just feels like its lugging or something, but I didnt think that was possible with an AT? I guess another way to describe it is it very lightly jerks back and forth.
