Looking at buying a 04 TL

I'm in need of a new car and my former CFO is selling his 04 TL. He wants 21k for it and it's all stock but only has 33K on the odometer. I've seen all the service records from Acura and it's had no issues to speak of. Does this seem like a good deal or is he a little high?

Thanks,

Brian

From my limited shopping experience, I think that's a great deal. Around Philly suburbs, I was considering buying an 04' TL with 50K miles for around $21,000 (including tax and tags). I bought an 04 with 71K miles for approximately $17,500 (including tax and tags). Note that these prices are for certified pre-owned Acuras from the dealership.

The one you're considering is still under original manufacturer warranty, so you should be fine.

Depending when it was first purchased it may be out of warranty, or soon might go out of warranty. The warranty is 4 years/50,000 miles.

It's a Acura Certified vehicle as he bought it from them and is willing to pay to transfer the warranty over

If it's a certified vehicle, I believe you have one year/12,000 miles limited manufacturer warranty IN ADDITION to what is left on the original limited manufacturer warranty. The powertrain warranty (7 year/100K?) is still the same though.

Great price. Just check on the purchase date for the warranty, and decide if you want to extend it or not.

The dealer (with permission of owner) faxed me the entire service record and a carfax for the car. It was bought in 10/03 so I'll find out from the dealer if I make the deal what it will cost to extend it and how long the transfer is good for.

Thanks guys.

Not sure about Acura but w/ most other cars the car has to be in warranty to extend it. His expired two months ago. You might be SOL.

It was at the dealer last week for some "rattles" and it was covered under warranty. It said it was done under warranty.

Strange.

If the car was bought in 10/03, the original manufacturer's limited warranty ended on 10/07. However, since your former CFO bought the car as a certified pre-owned, this added 1 year/12,000 miles to the limited warranty. Thus, the certified warranty has extended the original manufacturer's limited warranty to 10/08 OR 12,000 (whichever comes first).

I think it's a bit high for a second owner car out of warranty. I've got a '04TL 6MT with only 14,600 miles. I've only been offered 20K for my car. It's garaged and has never been driven in rain or snow. My factory warranty is good thru April 08.

Here's what's left on the warranty

Powertrain warranty = Expires 10/28/2010 or 100,000 miles which ever is first.

Bumper to Bumper = Expires 10/28/2008 or 62,000 miles which ever is first.
