Looking to buy a 2004
I'm looking to buy a 2004 TL 6spd(hopefully) w/ navi. What are some things that I should look for? I currently own a 2000 TL-p so I have some basic Acura/TL knowledge. Just looking for specific problems areas for this gen. Thank You

Issues going into 3rd gear for the 6MT- which can easily be fixed by changing out the fluid to the GM Friction Modified Synchromesh fluid.
Cracked dashes. Inspect the dash.
04's are notorious for 'butt prints' on the front passenger seats.

What he said. I never had a cracked dash, but got both front seats redone by dealership for the buttprints (very loose leather). Few other things:
1. Arm Rest Cushion gets flat, mine is literally as hard as a rock now. Theres a DIY to fix it, but I never bothered, I can write on it now lol.
2. Recently, the rear view mirror had a circle on it, the auto dimming fluid on it started to leak. That can happen to any car probably though.
3. On Automatics, 3rd gear might have problem with the throttle body - my TL and a friend's both have/had problems with the car shuddering at 35-38mph. He got his replaced. EDIT. Nevermind, you're getting a 6MT...
4. Air bag light comes on because of faulty sensor in the drivers seat belt. They reset mine (had the part but didn't install it because the code went away). Still comes on at some times.
Cant think of anything else other than that it'll make you wanna mod it all over again

My best bet is to actually do plenty of reading when it comes on debating what kind generation you want when it comes to the generations of the TL. I preferred the 05-08 series... click on this website and understand its history on the making

this will completely give you the ups and downs to everything before making your final decision. I literally sat down and though about buying my 06 acura TL for three days before I considered on buying my baby... So, good luck on your adventure. =)

the overexplainer
Bought the car in my sig in february with 52k miles. At 68k miles now with no real costly problems and it has not left me stranded. Check engine mounts (shop where i had it inspected only found the passenger side broken).
Check tire wear, 04 and some early 05s had problems with rear wear from toe being thrown out when loaded in the back. "fixed" with revised bump stops.
Get a pre purchase inspection done, and call the dealer with the VIN to check for any outstanding recall work that needs to be done.
All of the electronics work fine in mine, minus 2 burnt out bulbs on my steering wheel for the voice controls (both for the hang up/cancel buttons so it looks almost normal). If you have a choice, go with the 6MT. Far less problems/worry than the automatic, and if the gearbox itself goes bad it's still cheaper than overhauling or replacing an automatic.
