My buddy was showing me his Mazdaspeed Mazda6 6MT last night. Wow, 274hp and 280tq (both crank # of course) from a turboed 2.3L! Pretty impressive. He's a pretty good driver too. How do you think I'd do against him with my lightly modded TL-S? Anyone out there with a modded TL-S take on a Mazdaspeed Mazda6 6MT?

It's a 2006. I read on a mazda6 forum that they dyno mid-240whp, with ~260wtq and are running low 14's (stock), high 13's (with light mods). Our cars weigh about the same, but I'm sure he'd beat me pretty convincingly, since my TL-S with I/H/P doesn't touch those numbers (especially tq!) and he's manual. I'll let you know if we race.

We're both old guys (40+) and not as daring as you young bucks!

My coworker here has a 2006 speed6 along with a friend of mine down in DC. The speed6 6MT is a fairly quick car. I ran against it with my s/c'd TL and that thing is fast. It'll take a lightly modified TL-S easy.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you're right, but still I would like to know how much he would beat me by. He also told me that since it's rare to find gas here in the Portland area with an octane rating of 93 or higher, power is compromised substantially. I think he's just baiting me.

off the line u have absolutely no chance cause of his AWD if your gonna do it, do it on a roll but most likely if he can drive you'll lose

Those Mazada6 speeds are no joke at all. They'll probably take your car easy. Even with light mods.

I've been for a ride in both.

The TL-S had an AEM intake, headers, UR pulley set, thermoblok spacer kit, and Tein EDFC. A similar set up to bonknhead.

I really felt like the TL-S(well, the lightly modded one..) had more power up top, but obviously the Speed6 had more down low. From a slow roll I think you have a shot.

The headers, intake, and pulley really change the feel and power of the TL-S.

If its true his is only dynoing at 240whp with your mods you should be in the high 230's so still it should be close but not a total massacre

Good call Sam. On a straight shot turbos get a lot of edge depending on the set up, but on the track not much advantage.
