Latest scoop on 2005 changes

Just thought I'd pass along.........When I went to the dealer this weekend (to order my TL) I asked about the 2005 changes. They are already taking orders for the 2005 at my dealer. The salesperson said the only changes to the TL for 2005 would be deletion of the Abyss Blue Pearl color. He said there have been some complaints about the color scratching too easily and being very high maintenance - guess they had one in the showroom and had to wax it every third day. Not so sure how true but that is what he said. Also, they fixed the headliner problem and the problem with the tires. Other than that - no changes planned.

I wonder if they'll be introducing a new blue then - I don't think any car line is complete without some sort of blue... although I'm partial to my Anthracite myself.

True, the dealer wants to sell you on the car now. If he tells you there are going to be a bunch of new changes, odds are that you are going to wait for the 05. It's not really in his best intrest to tell you all the new model year stuff.

The dealer wants to sell the car NOW. they would never give you info that would make you want to wait for the next model year. If they did they would be stupid. I recall when I was looking at the 01 CL and asked if the 02 TL would get the same treatment ie type-s, reflector headlights, 17's etc etc. I remember it like it was yesterday...he told me that no they would not be doing those things to the TL because they wanted to distinguish the two. beyond the fact that ones a coupe and the other a 4door. dealers know sh*t and the salesmen themselves probably know even less. I myself am waiting for the 05, regardelss of any changes. When I do go in to order mine, I will be walking in knowing that I know more about the car and what people are paying for it than anyone else in the place. thats what makes this forum so great!!

Hah! High maintenance?

Tell him to put a NBP (Nightly Buff and Polish) on the floor.

It will be like a Vegas show girl: Very beautiful but consuming of time, energy, and money to keep it that way.

I speak from experience. (Not complaining, mind you! Don't send the birds!) <making sign of cross>

Not this generation will the TL get AWD as: it is tied too closely to the Accord and the American market, the AWD technolgy is for the "halo" car RL buit in Japan, aside for the last gen TL getting a 5 speed auto from a four, when hads Honda made such drastic changes within a models 4-5 year generation?

I think the sales guy is FOS.

Although, I would like to see the 05 have power tilt/telescoping wheel, power folding side-view mirrors, ventilated seats, fog/driving lights moved to the lower bumper, RDS in the radio and a few others, I have a feeling the biggest change will be the addition of a tire pressure monitor.

I will be truly surprised if there is no tire pressure monitor.

PS - I hope there is still some type of blue for 05.

Technically true. But, experientially, the darker colors, especially black, show these fine scratches or swirl marks a lot easier than, say, white.

I have found gold or beige tones to be the easiest to keep looking good as they are the same color as dirt (around here, anyway).

You guys are right. With Acura just eclipseing the 50k production mark there is no way they are going to release any information that will slow the 04 sales down. Just think how many people are shopping for an 04 TL right now. "just like myself" If Acura said tomorrow the new TL is going to have all these changes (probably wont change much) How many people are just going to stop looking and wait for that 05. Its bad for business to list the new model year stuff early unless your sales are bad already.

Hmm, my dealer told me there might be color changes too - but I put it down to my complaining about all the colors being a bit understated

Since they are taking preorders of the 05, has Acura started producing them? Or is the 04 TLs still in full swing?

Acura has had a blue color in the TL/CL models since at least the second generation. I don't know about first gen or old Legends/Vigors, maybe someone else can comment. But second-gen blue TLs and CLs are very common - I see them all the time. From this I draw the conclusion that blue is a popular color choice for the TL. Probably this is true in the '04 as well. Why on earth would Acura simply drop blue from the lineup? I doubt it. A slightly DIFFERENT blue from ABP, sure, that's possible. After all, there were at least three shades of the blue in the second-gen. But no blue at all for '05? That just doesn't make sense.

TL - no, you are right, they did not say they were dropping the blue alltogether - just the ABP

Which, if true, tells me Acura has a problem making up their minds about blue. The shade of blue on the '01 CL changed MID-year and none of the local dealers knew it. I got mine in April '01 and they tried to put a spoiler on that was the previous shade of blue. They couldn't even tell the difference until after they put in on in the garage and drove the car out into the sunlight.

So a new blue for the '05 TL wouldn't surprise me. Just weird that Acura keeps changing the blue but not the other colors.

I agree. Although I still argue over it in my head. I think 19's look amazing, but I know I'll lose sometime or another when it comes to "dodge the pothole". I'm looking at the HRE 542R's in 18x8.5. (Still trying to convince myself its worth $4K w/ tires).

I think they fixed those problems on the fly for 2004.

If it was merely a change of tape or adhesive, it is something that would change immediately once it came to their attention. How could it be otherwise? Do you think they would rather deal with the issues as a "come back" and disassembly under warranty? I think not. It would injure their reputation and be more expensive.

The smart thing is to fix the problems quietly on the fly and take care of the complaints as they arise without making a lot of noise about it.

Talk to a salesrep at Acura last week and the NEW '05 TL will be available coming sometime September 2004. So for all the new buyers out there.....if you are not in a hurry for one I would wait til the 2005 model so Acura would of gotten rid of some of the gliches in the car such as the really bad crappy tires and some raddles here and there.
