Killed a V6 Firebird
Killed a V6 Firebird

This guy on my way home tonight in a newer model V6 Firebird thought that he would be a dick and drive 35 in a 55 until a passing zone, then gun it so I couldn't pass him. It didn't work out that way. As I got over to pass, I saw a puff of black soot come from his single tailpipe so I pushed my foot to the floor (we were only doing 40 max at this point) By 65 I saw him looking like this:
in my rearview. He must have thought his detroit "muscle" could outrun any Japanese sedan.
BTW my car is a totally stock 02 TL-P

Good kill.

v6 is that slow or is that guy a very bad driver?
It seems to be an automatic, so I'd say the V6 is just that slow. The manual should be quicker, but I'd still bet money on the TL. Kris's stock 00 TL-P with 175k miles ran a 15.01 at the track. That would be handing that new V6 Mustang its ass on a silver platter.
stock 3.8 v6 mustangs are slow, but when modded they can be a 10-11 sec 1/4 car (+550rwhp\+600 tq ). check out the timeslips\dynopage on www.v6power.net there are many guys running twin turbos and superchargers. back in 1999 I had a 1996 v6 mustang, with ported heads cam, vortech v2 supercharger, intercooler, ported upper and lower intake manifold, and the car put out 370rwhp and ran in the 12s. v6 cameros\firebirds, are the same, slow stock but can beat alot of v8s when modded. The mustang was alot faster then my cl-s but the thing broke down every week end, plus everyone has one
But we're talking completely stock cars here. The J32 is simply a superior engine. A J32A2 6spd CL-S can post better timeslips than what I saw from far more powerful (by dyno numbers) modded 3.8 Mustangs. I saw one with something like 242whp, 257wtq and a timeslip of 14.8@90.5mph. That's getting smoked by a well-driven completely stock CL-S6.
A 98-02 Firebird, last body style, was a 14.7-15.0 car. The slowest would be a 93-95 car, they had the 3.4 and were like a 16.5 car.
My friend's 97 went 13.6 with heads, cam, gutted, and 12.3 with nitrous.

honda is one of the few companies that can really get the most out of a V6 without forced induction. for christ's sake, even the new 3.5L chevy V6 is only putting out 211hp.

I have a ton of friends who had the last gen 3.8 V6 Firebirds, and the best was 14.7 with just a cone filter. But he was mostly a 15.doh car. One friend went 14.2 with a converter, gear, dr's, and some other stuff...

Had more torque, though.
