keyless entry remote starting to look like crap?
is it just me or is everyone's keyless entry remote starting look like it's about 10 years old?
whose idea over at honda was it to paint the remote??
did they not think it would be in my pocket with a keyring full of keys??

I don't think the geniuses who design these have heard of keyrings or pockets. My '99 MB SLK230's both were completely coming apart after about 18 months. The rubber panic button on mine was completely worn through. The one on my wife's was almost as bad and her bale for putting it on a keyring broke and the MB SLK emblem came off.
They didn't give a crap until I whipped out my nine month old one from my CR-V and showed them how well (relatively) it was holding up and pointed out to them that the CR-V was a $20k Japanese vehicle and the M-B was a $45k German one, so I didn't think it was unreasonable to expect the thing to hold up a little better on the exact same keyring.
They ordered new ones, whining the whole time. The new ones didn't come in with the SLK-unique emblem. When I complained about this, you would have thought I was asking them to replace the transmission or something. After more whining and lots of phone calls to figure out how--at another dealer, I just looked them up with the counter guy in the parts fiche--they got the emblems but said I'd have to put them in myself (superglue?) as they didn't know how.
Now I don't keep it on a keyring and only put it in my pocket when I'm going to take the SLK out.

Yea those look like little Key Fob condoms....
Mine isn't looking that great but its just a key fob... Until it breaks or something I will just use it.
When it breaks, who knows... by then they may figure out the shell is not the best thing to paint and give me a new one with a different shell.
It seems they often change the shell based on my loaner cars.

Funny the 03-04 accord has a sturdy intergrated FOB with key and remote and nice durable black plastic. I buy 04 TSX cheap as FOB, I buy TL cheap ass FOB. What gives. yes they look like crap real quick

better transmitters
My dealer recently gave me a couple of hardened black plastic / black rubber Acura "preferred customer" transmitters for my TL. They're very cool looking, but supposedly hard to come by. I seem to get all the good stuff from Acura! Much more durable design, and great button style as well. I suggest you guys talk to your dealer to see if they can arrange this for you. You'll love them.
They're shaped like the original one, with the Acura logo embedded into the back, and they have a thin rubber weather strip around the buttons and between the front and back which makes me think these are water proof, but I'm not planning on finding out.
