Just got my first car, Acura TL! Now time for the questions!

Hey guys,

Well to start off I'm 16 and my dad just bought me my first car, and lucky me it was an Acura TL . Now I have a BUNCH of questions about the car and such, as I do look forward to modifying it!

To give you some background on the car its a
2005 Dark Metallic Grey (not sure of the Acura color code yet) TL with Navi

I love the look of the 2007 redesigned Acura, mostly the repositioned foglights and the tail lights of the car so I hope to achieve that look upon other things.

Now here are my questions

1. Where can I find the 2007 tail lights and will they fit on my car?
2a. I want to move the foglights from the main lights on to the bottom of the front bumper, how is this possible?
2b. If i were to get a body kit would repositioning the foglights be easier?
3. I also plan on putting angel eyes on my car, what would be the easiest/best brand i could buy and where could i buy it from?
4. I plan on putting a AEM intake on the car as well as changing the exhaust, does anybody have a recommended exhaust system that gave them that extra performance boost? *i am NOT looking to make the car ricey, so please no high pitched exhuasts.
5. Are there any easy mods that most Acura TL owners do to improve either the look/performance of their car?

Sorry for all the noobish questions, I'm usually good at researching this stuff myself but I'm so excited about my first car I don't even know where to start!

Thanks in advance for the help!

Are you serious? My first car didn't have reverse and yours is a TL? I hate my parents.

Congrats and use the search button. You will find all the answers you need. Your color is called anthacrite metallic, btw.

Haha yeah I know I feel really lucky about the car. Well my dad is kinda a car fanatic so he feels that I should drive a nice car as well (he drives a 2008 BMW 750Li, 95,000 sticker )

Thanks! I see that you have an AEM CAI on your TL, how do you like it? And I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of a reliable somewhat reasonably priced vendor where I could find parts, I'm excited to get started right away.

Enough about the kid being lucky. We get the point. I can answer a few of your questions.

For intake, AEM is definitely the recommended brand here. I'd say get it off ebay using the Microsoft live promo for 25% off.

Exhaust....comptech, greddy, xlr8, atlp. I have ATLP and i love it.

There aren't too many difficult mods for this car. The most difficult would either be supercharger or precat deletes in terms of installation. Intake, exhaust, pulley are all easy performance mods.

Get the a-spec body kit, a nice coilover suspension (tein, megan, h&r) and you'll be pimpin it.

Well GL with the car man, be safe and no showing off

ifirahse: not all of us grew up in the hills, and not all of our parents made 6-7 digits a year.

appreciate it,and get used to the fact that some people will respect someone less, who just had to point at the car they wanted so their dad would write the check.

ATLP exhaust is #1 and greddy with resonator is #2 imo.

all the taillights and side markers are interchangable from 2004-2008.
not the headlights tho.

good luck!

Grats on the car. Nice perk for you. Some people won't like it, but as long you're responsible, don't brag, etc, the old folks shouldn't give you too much trouble.

1. Ebay (Depo brand), Junk Yard, Dealership, AcuraZine Off Topic Secion - Black Market.

2a. There are 2 threads on page 1 of this forum about this. You need to look for threads on Accord Fog Ligths and/or Fog Light Relocation.

2b.

3. Umnitza. Ebay. Search for "Angel Eye" threads. Check users Kennedy, Rockyfeller and BforBrian.

4. Check/Search the Performance Sections. TONS of threads. Check Greddy, Excelerate and ATLP.

5. Check Here for more DIY info than you have time/money to do: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/3g-tl-garage-faq-3g-tl-newbies-553554/

Then seach users michaelbenz, blackura_ny and stillhere153. Check their signatures. They all are pretty much fully modded.

No one mentioned this yet but...
About the AEM intake... I'd go with the V2 from the Accord.
Speaking of accords, if you search you'll find threads about an Accord lower-valence-fog-light-mod. I'd link you up but I must admit.. I'm lazy right now.

Congrats on your first car! Treat it well though.. That's my only advice to you... Actually, one more: Try to enjoy it for what it's worth.. Cheers!

My first car was my 05 TL too, except I bought it myself at the age of 24...

Welcome.
Great car.
Treat her well and don't abuse her and she will more than pay you back. Keep your grades up in school and be respectfull.

BTW, my first car was a 1972 VW Bug... Battery was under the seat and the windshield washer fluid fed off the air pressure from the spare tire...

Nice! Since you have such a nice car you'll always be careful with it, so probably be a better driver. As opposed to driving a beater that you just dont care about. Thats how I like to think of it anyways, never once dented or scraped my car. Although I pretty much raped my wheels against the curb haha... gotta watch that parallel parking at first

Oh just spend a few hours reading the 3g garage and all your questions will be answered

Congrats on your TL. Additional to your list you should also do Door lights, Dome lights, License plates lights, reverse lights....They are very easy to do. Look for Kennedy's thread. Also Tint your windows and do the Type-S tails lights.

Btw, TL is my first car as well...Bought it myself at age 21. Each day I love the car more and more...

Even though I have bought every one of my cars myself (and my first car was an '88 corolla POS which I bought for $1000 and sold for $1500 a year later) this kid seems appreciative ...no need to hate...it feels better to buy stuff yourself anyway...besides an '05 TL for your first car isn't unheard of...I know a girl that just got a brand new M6 from her parents for her first car and she's only 16 too ...if you're gonna be pissed that someone else is lucky direct that frustration at the skeezer with the M6
Good luck on the mods tho...you'll usually get some great advice from the AZ

Yes, you can get them pure white...I have done this myself...very easy.
You can get all the info you need for led lights here: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/definitive-led-thread-all-youll-ever-need-know-about-leds-3g-garage-g-076-a-633045/

I think that's total BS, why would you respect someone less if their parents bought them a nice car? He's 16, he didn't yet have the opportunity to earn $$ to pay for a nice car. The only people I have no respect for is people that treat any car like POS, drive like idiots and don't respect their cars or anyone else's for that matter. Personally, if my financial situation permits, I absolutely plan on getting my kid a nice car at the age of 16. Provided that they show maturity and respect for their property. I want my kid to love his car, and drive wherever they go [as opposed to ride passenger with someone else]. My parents bought me a used Jeep when I turned 16, I loved that car and I babied it way more than any car that I bought on my own.

okay back on topic:
let me know how the angel eyes mod goes, I'd really like to get it done to my car as well, but I have a feeling I'll mess something up.

Haha I actually literally had to go on my knee's and beg for this car, and trust me it wasn't a "i want that car" and my dad being like "okay son" situation. A LOT of fights and such went on for this car but aside the point.

Yeah i dont plan on doing the angel eyes within the next 6 months cause I read a couple threads on it so im still studying up on it.

My first mod at this point is most likely replacing a majority of the lights on the car, such as license plate, reverse, dome, etc. etc.

Beautiful mod for the price

My advice to you is to do some stuble stuff so your dad doesn't think he spoiled you or that you had all the money for a car hidden away all along. If you go slapping on loud exhausts or something of the nature, he'll notice. Start off slow and then work your way up. Go with some tints, the LEDS and maybe do some maintance to it first like seafoam, filters, etc.

Yeah I def. had the same train of thought. I don't plan on doing engine mods for 2-3 months. For now its more looks for me, replacing the rear tail lights to the Type S lights, changing out the lights on the car, tinting windows+tail lights, maybe throw some nice bright HID's for the head lights. Yeah but for the most part its just gonna be exterior and interior mods, nothing engine wise yet. Still gotta get a good feel for the car before I go off modding it you know? Gotta walk before you can run....or speed.

Go with some tints, the LEDS and maybe do some maintance to it first like seafoam, filters, etc.
ha ha, the 'slow trickle of money' didn't work for me, not with my parents, and isn't working with my wife either. If I want something, I pretty much had to let it stack up, get it all done and then keep my mouth shut for a while.

Joker: haha don't beg, it shows weakness

Yeah but for the most part its just gonna be exterior and interior mods, nothing engine wise yet. Still gotta get a good feel for the car before I go off modding it you know? Gotta walk before you can run....or speed.
Why upgrade to the TL-S tails when you are going to tint them??? It would be pointless to hide them behind tint.

Here would be my list for mods for you, simple but good:
Tint the Windows
TL-S tails OR tint
LED interior Lights and plate lights
Comptech Rear Sway Bar or Progress Sway Bar - affordable and worth it
