Just changed my cabin air filter

Thanks for the DIY write-up here, was planning a 2000 miles road trip, was thinking about changing the filter for a long time, so started doing it 30 minutes ago.
Total time spent: 25 minutes.
After the 1st time, i will say i can do it in 15 minutes next time.
But i managed to break 1 on the securing pin on the left top of glove box , well it doesn't seem to affect though, no rattle or anything.

Thanks for saving me lots of money, hope my girl friend is going to appreciate the fresh air. It seems like it's easier to change the filter on HONDA model, like the odyssey.

Oh, forgot some info, the cabin filter has not been changed for almost 6 years and 80K, attached is the picture. Yuck!

The picture doesn't show how dirty the thing is due to white balance on my camera...

Good job, I just changed mine out last week... My filter was in there for 50k miles. I also put 2 of these bad boys in on the bottom, just to make it smell fresh every time..

The only reason why I did it was because the previous owner smoked. At first it was a bit strong, but after a couple days, it really smells nice....every time

Oh crap! I'm changing mine tomorrow then. How much does a filter run?

I used this one, only because I wasn't in a rush, and I have Amazon Prime.

Amazon Amazon

They run from $10-15.

About $15 for an aftermarket filter. Most auto parts stores should have it.

Once you know how to do it, it isn't that difficult. It's smart to keep those clean, for sure!

How often are they changed? I know it depends in region, but what's an average recommended mileage.

Just did mine today. 07 with 60k miles, first time I think. Mine was just as bad as the OP's. Didn't break a clip, but was shocked by how much force you have to pull to get the housing out.

Just did both my cars today. The TL with the cutout is a 5 minute operation and my Pilot is a 30 minute operation that even has a shortcut employed. Both filters were only a year old and very dirty. The TL is an easy operation while the Pilot gets me thinking about Honda 'engineering' much like the TL did without the cutout.

wow, I was trying to find this the other day because I changed it on the accord and I was puzzled. That extra black plastic is all that differentiates the two Hondas! I used to use cut out furnace filter. Ppl recommended that on TAC, I suppose I can continue with that for the TL?

I bought my Acura 2007 this week. I figured the cabin air filter had never been replaced and I was right.

Guess which one is old.

It sure is ridiculous how hard you have to pull down. Had the iPad in the car with the youtube vid and was sure I was going to break something. Got the filter out and the dealership had already replaced it.

No to thread-jack but do dirty filters cause the air to smell stale? Every time I turn the a/c on to defrost windshield, the air smells stale. I figured it might be the cabin filter so I changed the filter about 3 days ago, and it still smells stale to me. Just add dryer sheets like rydjohnson stated?
