Just Bought My First New Car!

Hello! I've admired my neighbor's '05 TL for a couple of years now. After coming to the realization that my Miata couldn't continue to be my main form of transportation, I bought my first new car yesterday! It's an '08 TL Type S, Nighthawk Black Pearl!

I've enjoyed lurking around this forum for a few months and it's nice to be able to take part in the Acura ownership experience!

I am very interested in learning how to care for this car, especially the beautiful paint.

Awesome another NBP, looks just like the one I got a week ago, but my rims are not chrome!!!! Did your rims come from the dealership like that? Your going to enjoy the TYPE S every day

Yes, the rims were on the car when I walked in to the showroom. That's what really knocked me out! I had not seen or heard about them before. They're not on Acura's website.

(Hey, where is the oil filter?)

oil filter passenger side under engine. Drain bolt even has the word OIL stamped above it
The TL handles wayyyyyyy different than the Miata. Make sure to read the owner book and pay attention to the traction control and brakes sections. The car has a mind of its own and you may not agree with it sometimes
Register your baby with acura at 1-800-382-2238 x5 and

You will need the crs VIN number for each of those
On the acura.com site - you can store the radio and nav security codes for future use when the battery gets replaced and the audio system locks.
not good if you are on a roadtrip and the codes are at home

Welcome the the azine world- check out the Off Topic section for Meets- there will be many as spring hits and bbq weather and drives are the order of the day.

Track day schools at a real racetrack with a pro coaching you- as you learn how to go fast and smooth in the TL... without oncoming traffic or cops bothering you-

oil filter...if you turn the wheels all the way to the left and then look in the wheel weel on the passenger side you will see it sticking out...its blue and alot smaller than what you are used to seeing...unless you used to seeing motorcycle oil filters....

sweet ride...make sure you get in on the 77$ xm deal....

Nice car! I guess you bought it at Bob Howard? I think they had your car on the showroom floor when I bought my CBP Type S from them...I remember the chrome wheels. I liked them, but from what I remember they were pretty proud of them...around $2k if memory serves me correctly.

Anyway, welcome. Nice to see another Oklahoma guy on the board. Do you see many other Type-S's around here? I haven't seen another one since I bought mine.

Congratulations on your new car. Nice color choice. Keep her clean so she stays that way. Regarding the oil filter, I think you need to turn the steering wheel to the left (sitting inside the car and facing the steering) to be able to see it. But why you need to worry about it now?

C'mon guys. I hate to beat this, but if you are going to put yourself in a position of giving advice, especially to a new guy, know what you are talking about.
If you turn the wheel to the left (as sitting in the car), the tire will block access to the oil filter. If you turn to the right, that moves the tire out of the way so you may access the filter easily. Go out and try it. 'Nuff said.

Welcome, as everyone else has already said. If they had crome dipped wheels when I bought mine, our cars may have been twins. I love the look! Sweet ride, you'll enjoy it a lot I'm sure.

I never saw those chrome wheels before. I really like them, wish they were available in 2007.

The other Acura wheels are OK, but not worth the upgrade cost to me.

I'm curious about the filter location because I'm a diy kind of guy and just like to know what's going on with stuff like that!

Yes, I bought it at Bob Howard, and yes, they were very proud of those wheels ($1800.00)!

Tell me more about the XM deal, please!

No, I didn't get the manual transmission. Never thought I'd drive a four door with auto, but things change, right?

In the audio subforum there is a sticky that explains everything. Follow the script and it will definitely work for you. I got my XM for $77 for the first year as many others have in the past.

I followed the updated script...basically told the sales person that I received a flyer when I purchased my car that offered one year for the $77 price.

The thread is a lot of reading, but I think it is definitely worth looking into vs paying full price!

Ok, this is where you learn about these guys who supervise everything thats posted on the forums. They are called "moderators". And they provide organization to chaos. They will tell you that your best friend is the "search" feature. I have provided a link for you to read to your hearts content about the XM radio deal below. I probably didn't paste it right, but at least you know where to look.

Take my word for it, my information concerning oil changes is correct. Again, using "search", you can read "ad nauseum" about brands of oil, synethic vs. non-synthetic, one oil filter brand vs. another. Even which tire is best. This place is just CHOCK full of information, and opinions.
I am also a DYI person. Tire rotation, pressures, oil changes, mods.
Have fun, and realize that this forum has a virtual unlimited amount of information on your Acura TL.

Its only an smooth shifting automatic in D5, in the Sport Shift mode you have a trick 5 speed that doesnt require you to push a clutch pedal, leaving that leg free to brace yourself in turns!

No, Type-S can be had in both Auto or Manual. But the manual is definitely more fun to drive.

during and after my 3 month trial all i recieved was an offer to subscribe for the normal rate of 144.00 a year...there is no promotional offer...thats why we use the script...
