Just bought an '05 TL - Transmission Question
I bought an 05 ABP TL (non-nav) with 83K miles about a week ago and have a transmission question. I didn't notice it on the test drives but it seems to shift hard into 3rd gear sometimes at low speeds. Under high acceleration I do not notice it. The dealer provided a car fax report and before they listed it they serviced it and it said the ransmission fluid was replaced. I checked the level today (after a 25 mile drive) and it is rather hard to read but it seems to be below the first dot (i assume that is low). Should I add some fluid and see if that helps with shifting or should I look at replacing the pressure switches? The fluid when I checked it did not smell burned and I am not experiencing any slipping.
Other than this one issue the car drives great, it is evident it has been taken very good care of in the past. I hope this isn't evident of future transmission problems that seems to plague this car.

Change the switches.

6th Gear
Just bought an '08 Base a month ago with 66k miles, and I've noticed this occasionally - always when barely feathering the throttle going slow. I've done a 3x3 with DW1, shifts better/cleaner, but I think the occasional hard shift is just the way it is - it really doesn't happen very often...the more I drive it the less concerned I'm becoming. I do plan on changing the switches sometime over the summer...we'll see.

I swapped out the 3rd and 4th pressure switch today, i took it for a quick drive and it still seemed to shift rather hard into 3rd (seemed to get better the more i drove it). I guess it is just something i will have to live with. At least swapping the switches was an easy job so not much was wasted.

The appropriate action is to change the
following.
1. Shift C solenoid
2. Pressure A/B solenoid
3. 3rd Gear Pressure Switch.
In the order as listed. However, you may change them all at once.

thanks alot for the info. I've never heard of anyone mentioning steps 1,2. only the pressure switches. I know nothing about cars but im trying to know as much as I can about mine. what is the purpose of switching these solenoids ?

Shift Solenoids are the gate keepers to the pipes leading to the clutches.
Pressure Control Solenoids are responsible for filling and pressuring the pipes going to the clutches.
They work together to engage or disengage the gears.

BTW when you are servicing the Pressure A/B solenoid, besure to check the screens at the bottom of the three small pipes. Replace the three O-rings and the Solenoid's gasket.
