- You HAVE to remove the AIRBAG to change any of the bulbs on the steering wheel.... (pictures below)

Here are the steps....

1. You first have to remove the negative from the battery (unhook the battery)

2. You then have to remove the airbag plug from under the steering wheel. There is a compartment on the bottom of the steering you need to open and remove (separate) the yellow plugs in it

3. Unscrew the two screws (THE BIG HOLES) on both sides of the airbag (THIS IS THE TOUGHEST PART OF THE WHOLE EXERCISE)

4. Once you're done... the airbag should come loose and then depending on which bulbs are out...(the Cruise Control lights on the right OR the Radio volume and channel station control light) you can unscrew the silver unit from the back of the wheel and once that Unit comes loose it will pull out .... you flip it over and change whichever bulb is out....!

Then do everything you did in reverse and iput it back together.....

OW yeah.... Everything is perfect.... I was just being irritated by half of my steering wheel lights not lighting up........

SO I did some research... and figured it cant be too hard......! Although the pics look too complicated... it is just a matter of removing lots of screws... hardest part is to remember to put it back right....

SO I changed all the bulbs... I first did all the gear shift light and then the heated seats lights... and then the steering wheel lights!

Now all is good..!

Hope the pictures helped out some people!!

Pretty bright. Most people are doing 4 or 6 per bulb.

I did 6 and think it's just about right.

I don't think the WLED 4's will fit in the Center Storage Console and Glove Box. Those are Type 74 bases.

You can try 'em, I guess, but I .... I could be wrong and they might fit fine. Let us know.

Thanks for taking the time to share the photo of the bulb!

I think it is a #74 with a plastic twist lock adaptor...if it is then a #74 LED
should be able to replace it!

I wanted to put Rear LED turn signal bulbs on my 2004 TL. Do you know what bulb size and where to get it from? Do they also make it for the front signals too?

one issue to watch out for when replacing the steering wheel bulbs...
I remember replacing my old '01 accord steering wheel with a MDX steering wheel years ago. Appears to be a similar process with similar parts, but you need to replace the airbag within 30 minutes or so otherwise the SRS light will start to come on even after reinstallation. This then required a reset of the ecu which could be done either at the dealership or with a paperclip...

LEDs replacing 194s

I have read many of the posts and am looking at various LEDs for Dome, Door and Reverse Lights.

For the Domes, doesn't a radial LED design make more sense?

Anyone used the WHITE 5-LED REFRACTOR LIGHT BULB offered by iTechLEDs on eBay?

Thanks

Heya. I just wanted to say, "Thank you" for the great DIY. The tape was foolproof. Can't wait till I go get dinner later when it's dark out.

So far, it looks awesome. So much better than the soft light.

Thanks again,
miiipilot

So everyone is aware, the Red 74 Wedge Base bulbs do not fit in the glove box and center colsole (same bulb for both). these bulbs are a bit too long and the bulb enclosure does not fit back on correctly as best i can tell.

does anyone know which bulbs do fit, or what people are doing to the Red 74 Wedge Base bulbs to make them fit?

Otherwise the dome & door lights look great and are very easy to do. still working on the vanity lights. the license plate lights are possible to do without going from inside the trunk, but its extremely difficult this way. you're better off taking the trunk liner off.

Use butter knife on vanity lights.

Here's a post with scans and DIY for the Vanities. Very Helpful.

Thanks to all who came before.
I just did the vanity lights. first i was using a thin eyeglass type flathead screwdriver. i slid it between the plastic and metal ring from the right side (drivers side). i couldnt get the tab to release and was about to break the lens cover. then i tried a butter knife instead, and it popped right off. the buter knife is just think and flat enough to catch the plastic clip. i highly recommend trying a butter knife for the vanity (visor) lights.

Blue LEDs Installed

I used SuperbrightLEDs.com for the #74 Glovebox and console lights---they are 3-LED units.
Glovebox and Center console: 74-xHP3 Wedge Base LED bulb $ 3.49 (each)

I used ExtremeBrightLEDs.com (on eBay) for the LED Interior 8-pack $54.99:
Door (front) – Two 12-LED bulbs
Dome Light – Two 12-LED bulbs
Map Light – Two 12-LED bulbs
Center Console – One 1-LED bulb
Glove Box – One 1-LED bulb

The last 2 from this order I did not use---they were single LEDs and were not bright enough.

More info about my LEDs

Forgot to mention, the SuperBrightLEDs.com #74 bulbs for the Glovebox and Center console are a pain in the ass to install, but they will go in. Once I got them seated, there were no clearance issues with the light housing.
The ExtremeBrightLEDs.com 12LED bulbs are fantastic in blue!

So, other than the steering wheel, is there a way to change all the lights in the center console/dash? I.e.; all the lights around the nav screen, etc?
